FYI, as a Ukrainian colleague of mine pointed out, it is “Ukraine,” not “the Ukraine.” “The Ukraine” is what it was called when it was under Soviet control. “Ukraine” is the name for the independent country.
And it’s not “You-krane”, it’s more like the east-central European “Oo-krine”.
