NYT: They Voted Democratic. Now They Support Trump.
NYT ^

Posted on 11/26/2019 3:16:54 PM PST by Bigtigermike

Two-thirds of battleground state voters who chose Trump in 2016 but selected Democrats in the midterms say they will return to the president next year.

Midterm victories in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin gave Democrats hope of retaking the Rust Belt battleground states that handed the presidency to Donald J. Trump in 2016.

Yet success in the midterms might not mean as much for Democratic presidential candidates as the party might think. Nearly two-thirds of voters in six battleground states who voted for President Trump in 2016 — but for Democratic congressional candidates in 2018 — say they intend to back the president against each of his top rivals, according to recent polling by The New York Times Upshot/Siena College.

The results suggest that the party’s winning formula in last year’s midterms may not be so easy to replicate in a presidential election. The Democrats’ relatively moderate House candidates succeeded in large part by flipping a crucial segment of voters who backed the president in 2016. If these voters remain open-minded again in 2020, Democrats will have a ready-made blueprint for winning back the crucial Rust Belt battlegrounds.

This group is only a sliver of the electorate — 2 percent of registered voters — and is not representative of all voters. They are overwhelmingly white, 60 percent are male, and two-thirds have no college degree. But the president’s strength among them helps explain why he is highly competitive in states that Democrats carried just one year ago.

They may pull the lever for Trump, but how will it be counted?

Anyone who votes for both Trump and the contemporary Democrat party can't be too bright.

How many of these FDR union goon yellow dog holdouts are still out there?

You are correct. Trump needs strong targeted enforcement in the important swing voting districts.

This is as important as campaigning.

Buyers remorse. They bought commie rat and now they want to turn them back in for a refund.

I can’t wait until the GOP retakes the House of Representatives. They are useless as sin, but just MAYBE they can do some investigating into the FISA abuse, unmasking, and bloodless coup. Kind of a front group for Barr and then drag Barr in for grilling when he declines to prosecute the perps.

"They are overwhelmingly white, 60 percent are male, and two-thirds have no college degree."

We asked this one why he supports Trump:

"Well, I think jobs are important, which is what drives the economy. Also I think we need to protect our borders, and encourage that people buy American made products".

None of us at the NYT could understand his prehistoric dialect, however.

“They are overwhelmingly white, 60 percent are male, and two-thirds have no college degree.”

As usual, Dems underestimate us Hicks from the Sticks! And, Good! Screw ‘em!

“But the president’s strength among them helps explain why he is highly competitive in states that Democrats carried just one year ago.”

Hard to believe any Dems won ANYTHING based upon how spiteful, rabid and nutty their leadership is. So GLAD, Nancy and her Crew of LOSERS have stuck to their script of doing BUPKIS for America and bashing President Trump 24/7 for the past three years. People (Blacks, Hispanics, Independents) ARE paying attention!

Trump. 2020. Landslide. MAGA! KAG!

Trump will inevitably do better in 2020, but voters need to get the message that, while your Dem congressman may be a swell guy, a vote for him is a vote toward a Dem majority in Congress, and that means nothing gets done except more yammering about make-believe crimes and “peach fodey fie.” You want the Trump agenda, don’t vote down ballot for impediments to the Trump agenda.

I will be surprised it’s only two-thirds.

Democrats sensible and independent enough to cross over and vote for Trump in 2016, would likely still be sensible and independent in 2020.

One doesn’t wise up and then become foolish again, right?

Although, I suppose if a Democrat hated Hilary Clinton and voted against her rather than for Trump, I guess they might revert. But to me, these clowns running seem just as unappealing as Hillary.

I probably don’t understand Democrats well enough to puzzle this out.

They may pull the lever for Trump, but how will it be counted?

a FReeper informed me today that voting machines in 33 states are supplied by a Soros owned company!

What a surprise if the Dems get more votes than the total people living in the precincts. As in the City of Detroit. Jill Stein's energetic Michigan recount project was suddenly dropped when they started uncovering exactly that anomaly Oops.

For the life of me, I will never understand how ANYONE can vote for President Trump, watch his amazing accomplishments for two years, then vote dem in 2018. It is insane.

The dems were extremely careful to put forward centrist democrats in the mid-terms. Their policies probably weren’t all that different from Trumps. Centrist Moderate Democrats won’t be heading the ticket against Trump.
