I lived in the Orlando area for forty years (1966-2006), and I used to go to the church that Church Street is named after, so alas, I know that neighborhood.
The pine box derby.
People, stay off the tracks. Especially don't fall asleep on the tracks. And parents, if your kids do play on the tracks and get killed or injured, don't sue the railroad for raising a stupid kid.
In this case you only have to lose one.
Ferroequinologist : First time I have EVER seen that word.
That wouldn’t even be on Jeopardy.
I look at it, and I can see Ferro = Iron.
Equine = Horse The Iron Horse! That, I have heard of.
Isn’t that what the Indians called the trains?
Ologist = One who studies a certain topic.

There it it.
“Police who investigated the scene said personal items belonging to Keller were scattered around the tracks, including a broken watch band and a folding knife.”
Good thing this didn’t happen in NYC, Mayor Debolshevik would have had his pieces swept up and arrested.
“Always expect a train”—radio public
service announcement about safety at
train crossings
Beverly MA some years back—16 yr old
boy killed crossing train tracks had been listening to loud music on phone/headphones
Youtube had video of a group of young people in a car;driver decided to try and make it across train tracks.Horns of train blowing, loud thud, glass etc shattering.Train did stop but not until many yards after the collision due to its speed.Conductor went outside, saw the fatalities (out of camera view) then sadly got back in.
I was introduced to an AMTRAK train engineer, who was said to have killed eight people. I don’t think that’s ALL that unusual.
Can’t wait for high speed rail...
It is an unknown word, but a model railroad club in Connecticut has it in its name.
“One of the last sentences said by the 44-year-old man struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Longwood Friday was...”
I fully expected those last words to be...”Watch this y’all...”.
“One of the last sentences said by the 44-year-old man struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Longwood Friday was shouted to a friend as the two walked to a neighborhood pub: Lets race the train!”
TO a pub? They sure it wasnt FROM a pub?
Dont Drink And TrainRace
Pretty common. I have known a bunch of engineers who were in the right-hand seat when someone got in front of their train, and they almost all agreed that by the time a guy had 30 years in, they'd likely be involved in a couple of fatal collisions.
Many years ago I worked for a railroad as a track man for 5 months. During that time I saw three fatalities - one pedestrian and two vehicles. In one case we were detailed to recovery body parts down the track from the impact area. They were about the size of hamburger bits.
Crossings have been improved since them but train collisions are still a relatively common event.
We need to ban this dangerous drug.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Trains don’t hit people. Trains run on a track. It’s people who hit trains.
The Philadelphia Enquirer just had a detailed story about engineers and how they deal with death.
In the late 1970’s, I knew a guy who was a long retired engineer. We were discussing railroad deaths once and he told me that he lost count and had to train himself that someone dying under his train was absolutely never his fault.
One of the younger engineers I was acquainted with back in the day was running in fog and the train hit someone who was driving across the tracks at an unsignaled crossing; it was his first experience with a fatal collision, and it shook him up. Not long afterwards, he had an almost identical experience at the same spot, which affected him deeply. He got a lot of support from older engineers who knew exactly what he was going through.
That particular crossing had been in place for years, but it was sort of "an accident waiting to happen," and it happened twice to make up for lost time. I knew the place well and had always wondered why it was even there, as it had been redundant for some years. Said crossing was subsequently removed by the town (or maybe the county) and it gave the crews one less thing to worry about.
