This is why we so desperately need term limits. And some control of lobbyists, although I am not sure what that would look like. There needs to be a mechanism by which lobbyists are prevented from buying policy and influence.

Term limits and limiting lobbying activities are steps 1 & 2; the coup-de-grace is the de-unionization of the governmental workforce and the criminalization of using their positions for political motives. They are the core of The Swamp.

How about banning paid lobbyists entirely? Nothing stopping a business owner or an affected citizen from doing his own lobbying.
If it's really important, find the time yourself.
