My township gained a great deal of business because the town decided to keep Big Business out by enacting a bunch of regulations. These regulations hit the local sole proprietorships hard so they moved outside of the town limits.
Ironically the only businesses left are the chains that could afford to comply.
We keep a close eye on the township board to make sure they don't get any bright ideas.
