Bunk. Stephen A. Douglas sat on the platform when Lincoln was inaugurated, and held his hat for him.

And, he went about the South after the election trying to argue against secession, and for peace.

He never bleeted about how horrible it was to see Lincoln standing where he wanted to be.

I think Douglas was going around the South before the election trying to convince people that secession was a bad idea--it was obvious before the election that Lincoln was going to win.
