0700 HST: Several thousands gathered before dawn this morning at the Pearl Harbor visitors center to attend this mornings 78th anniversary of the Day that will live in infamy. Security is tight in light of the shootings here and at Pensacola this week. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt will represent the President and deliver the key note speech in ceremonies slated to begin at 750, the hour of the attack. Were privileged to be attending with Arizona survivor Lou Conter. The picture below shows the Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri at dawn. Im summoned to go visit with me Conter. Ill post a link to my sons documentary about him in a bit, and more later

I almost did keep quiet but couldn't in the face of such appalling ignorance.
Y'know, that midget sub was sighted by a US amphibious aircraft, a PBY.
I've been in contact with Lou Contermy sister has visited them at their previous home.
Lou, an "Enlisted Pilot", who had previously survived the USS Arizona attack, was my Dad's co-pilot.
They had to ditch the "Black Cat" PBY, due to fire on board. All aboard swam to a Japanese-controlled island, had native support, and were rescued by PT boat.
Also, “At Dawn We Slept”...
No, but world politicians bring it up when they want to make a point. And you can be sure that Japan won’t forget that any less thean we do Pearl Harbor.
Hence why I pointed out that the accounts are closed.
“Hey, we wiped out your naval base in a sneak attack!”
“Hey, we wiped two of your cities off the map with a single bomb each while we were warring with you.”
Yup. The PH account was paid in full with interest by Hiroshima and Nagasaki *and* the resulting destruction of the Emperor as a god requiring worship.
At the New Orleans WWII Memorial, I bought a brick for each of those two PBY pilots—with the “Battle of Rabaul” inscribed.
I listened to the President’s announcement of the attack. I was also 9. I remember it so clearly I can still hear his voice and most of his words in my head. Little did I know how much it would affect my family.
