Republicans introduce bill to protect LGBTQ rights and religious freedom

With the backing of a consortium of Christian colleges and universities, a Utah congressman introduced a bill Dec. 6 that would ban discrimination against LGBTQ people while also protecting religious institutions that uphold traditional beliefs about marriage and sexuality.

The so-called "Fairness for All" bill, introduced by Rep. Chris Stewart and eight other Republican legislators, is the culmination of a three-year effort to bridge the divide between two typically warring groups: LGBTQ people and religious conservatives.

"All of God's children, regardless of sexual orientation or religion, deserve dignity, respect, and the right to pursue happiness," Stewart said in a statement. "This legislation allows us to settle the legal questions and get back to the business of loving our neighbors."

The bill offers an alternative to the Equality Act, which passed the House of Representatives in May but is blocked in the Senate and unlikely to come up for a vote any time soon. That bill included broad protections for the LGBTQ community but few exemptions for churches, schools and charities that object to homosexuality and same-sex marriage on religious grounds.

Sounds good, but any embrace of the concept of LGBTQ "people" will only lead to further compilations. It is just a ruse to force acceptance of a dysfunctional behavior that is not in the interest of society.

They are mutually exclusive.

You cannot “protect” LGBTQXYZ without forcing Christians to do and say things that violate their religious conscience.

You cannot protect the religious conscience of Christians without offending the LGBTQXYZ nutters.

Queers already have the same rights as everyone else. That’s not what interests them. They want to take away the rights of anyone else to disagree with them.

The Rs should author bills that embrace Western civilization rather than perversion.

Somebody tell me when they are going to do something about protecting the rights of White, heterosexual, religious people? For all the bitching and moaning about White supremacy it seems to me that White people are being like bottom of the barrel citizens, with White, heterosexual, religious conservatives being ground down beneath the barrel.

Why are queers and illegals given more rights in America than any other legal American citizen or registered alien?

Religious people will get the short end in this legislation.

The two issues simply can’t coexist. The usual suspects will have judges lined up to make sure any religious freedoms that hurt the feelings of a LGQBT person are struck down.

How about an announcement that every human being in the US is a minority of one. Strengthen protections for us all, including making sure there are no protected persons or classes of persons. EVERYONE EQUAL EVERYONE THE SAME UNDER THE LAW.

These “conservatives” purport to have found that ultrasound
reveals that there are, in fact, 88 genders.

how about protecting normals?

So they’re a protected class of people? Why not protection from them for the rest of us having to put up with them?

Sounds like that opens the doors for rapists, pedos, abusers, public weenie waggers, perverts of all kinds.

‘Cause this version of “God’s Children” certainly must apply to all.

There is no “normal” and we’d all best get damned good and use to it.

All of God's children, regardless of sexual orientation

Um, no, not according to the Bible.

Eph 5:11,12: "..have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret."

Anyone suggesting otherwise might want to confer with Genesis 19 to see what God has already said on the subject.
