Virginia sheriff vows to deputize (thousands of) residents if state gun control legislation passes

A Virginia sheriff has vowed to deputize residents in his county if the new Democratic-led legislature enacts gun control measures.

Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins made the vow during a Board of Supervisors meeting last week in which the panel unanimously agreed to declare the county a Second Amendment Constitutional County.

“Every Sheriff and Commonwealth Attorney in Virginia will see the consequences if our General Assembly passes further unnecessary gun restrictions,” Jenkins wrote on Facebook before the meeting.

“I plan to properly screen and deputize thousands of our law-abiding citizens to protect their constitutional right to own firearms,” he added.

A number of counties in the state have passed similar resolutions in response to expected gun control legislation. Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam has said his party will push for gun control measures since it regained control of the Virginia General Assembly.

I am in the counties of Middlesex, Warren, and (City of) Alexandria but I will send Scott Jenkins a letter of support first thing in the morning.

As written the proposed legislation in VA doesn’t exempt LEOs from the “assault firearms” statutes. In fact, it would even ban ON DUTY semi-auto patrol rifles. The magazine exemptions only apply for on duty use and retired LEOs for their department issued weapon.

Providing the state with a list of gun owners.
Tricky business.

Sheriff’s, as ELECTED officials, are the final law of any county - they can tell the FEDS to take a hike. Sheriff Richard Mack of Arizona did when “Bubba” Clinton threatened him for refusing to comply with the Brady Bill - Mack took it all the way to the Supreme Court and WON....Look him up - make sure YOUR sheriff knows - and realize it’s imperative to elect Conservative Sheriffs...you can get his book on Amazon - get one for your Sherriff

The militia is a “state” militia.
Hate to see people misunderstand this. It’s a very powerful political statement, legally not so much.

And since they would then officially be law enforcement then they should be exempt from the NFA and can order their own full auto M4 straight from Colt.

I think I like this idea.

I’ll bet this really pisses off Houston “Police Chief” Ace Avacado. He’s one of those pinheads who believes it’s the NRA who is secretly killing people with guns. A real retard.

Yes it is time to put all those privately owned ARs to good use. Create a local militia. Have parade drills. Range days. Buy ammo in bulk. Long range shooting events. Report publicly your progress. Design a patch to be worn everywhere.

Make sure all the local guardsmen are members. Have the sheriff as a deputy commander. And, if necessity, let the newbie state trooper know you know where he lives, where his children go to school, and his route to work. The veteran troopers already know you know.

You know what will happen? What any jackass gun grabber will do? Absolutely nothing, zilch, squat, nadda.

You either stand up for your rights or you lose them.

This is why the nazis use the police to enforce red flag laws. Of the thousands of those seizures, not one cop has declined to participate.

So will the Sheriff keep the cops at bay during these seizures? Red flag laws are on the plate for the next VA session.
