Barring new information, Peterson will not vote for impeachment
Grand Forks Herald ^ | 12-14-2019 | Carolyn Lange

During an appearance Saturday before dairy producers in west central Minnesota, Rep. Collin Peterson said unless he hears something to change his mind, he will not vote to impeach President Trump on Wednesday. Peterson also said he's optimistic about the dairy industry but not about the rest of the ag economy.

How can anyone vote yes if the vote is based on principle? There was no high crime, no treason, etc.

said, "So when’s the vote?"

everyone seems to expect a vote next week. I believe they want this to hang for months. The reason is because of the indictments that are coming and they can't indict those that are part of the impeachment

That's my question, I don't know how these Representatives can sleep at night, knowing what they are doing. They know the law, they know the seriousness of this process, and they ignore it, for revenge & pure political theater.

I also wonder if they truly understand they are representing their constituents, not Pelosi, Not Shiff or Nadler. Shouldn't they be at home, in their districts, finding out what the people really want and think about impeachment? I'd hope some of them would be surprised.

My dads best us Air Force squadron pal and his wife lived in Edina

My conservative brother-in-law and his extremely liberal wife live in Edina. Well, actually they just moved. Didn't like the Somali influx.

The liberal wife is becoming more conservative everyday.

I doubt that very few of either party are going to vote on principles, not theirs (they have few) or the Constitution’s.

Senator or Member of Congress: "How much bribe money and how many votes are in it for me? Okay. I'll vote on principles this time."

I watched a video clip of Rep. Peterson, who is the chairman of an agricultural committee, saying the following and he reminded me of the way Democrats used to sound, sensible and fair-minded. In fact, he looked at the NPR reporter, straight into the eyes and was very believable in his opposition to what the Democrat leadership was doing and the President’s innocence.

“The biggest problem I have with this is that you had people that decided they’re going to impeach him. And how they spent a year trying to figure out how they could make a case for it. That’s backwards, you know? I just don’t agree with this. I would say if you did a poll in my district, over half of the people in my district think you shouldn’t do foreign aid in the first place, ok? So to convince them that holding up foreign aid is a big deal? They want to get rid of it! We don’t have any first-hand information about what happened on that phone call. It’s all secondhand information. You know, the whistleblower was all secondhand information. You know, the President has not committed a crime.”

Wouldn’t be a surprise. They’re known for it.

He wouldn’t do it but if McConnell announced that after further consideration, he decided to hold a trial with all the witnesses the WH wants, I’m almost willing to bet Pelosi would allow enough Nay votes to defeat both Articles.

Dems do not want several of those witnesses to testify publicly.

“My life’s new goal is to see Luria lose that seat.”

Ditto here, though I’m in Va-1. That bitch ran last year on being an “independent,” “bipartisan” voice in Congress. There is nothing of her actions that speaks to “independence” whatsoever. She’s Nancy’s girl all the way.

Peterson is one of the last bonafide blue dog Democrats. He's represented the district way back since I was in graduate school in its largest city (Moorhead). He was the first from the party to call on Al Gore to throw in the towel after the 2000 election Florida debacle.

They love him for the same reason the voters of this district love Donald Trump-- the "don't give a $#*+" attitude.

Peterson supported Bernie Sanders in 2016, saying he couldn't bring himself to vote for Clinton, and he represents a Republican-leaning rural district where he's perceived as vulnerable in 2020.

Will President Trump be able to get China to the point where the midwest soybean market is restored in time to help his reelection? Also, why isn’t he pushing more in the way of infrastructure projects?

I think President Trump was hoping to see the USMCA treaty ratified, which contains dairy, auto, tariff reduction, and labor provisions.

Maybe once USMCA passed, it would open up the need for improved infrastructure, including electricity, roads, and rail improvement?

Also, since Pelosi had been holding up the USMCA in the House, perhaps Trump thought he couldn't get an infrastructure bill passed right now?
