The CEO of bet365, Denise Coates, gave herself the largest yearly compensation in business history.

She has paid herself $1.2 BILLION over the last four years!

I am still amazed that people gamble when it is proven the house always wins.

Yup. She saw where the market was going and grabbed it. You can literally watch soccer games on your phone over there and bet on your phone while you’re watching the game! I’m sure it’s causing a lot of divorces over in the UK, but it’s making her company a lot of cake.

Says a lot about society when the Highest-Paid executive is with a betting company.

In my personal experience, gambling is more addictive than booze. My friends who gamble obsess over it. It gives them a high during games they otherwise have no interest in. I have no experience with drugs so I can't say.

I have seen many fights between friends and their wives over gambling away the rent money. I like playing blackjack but I can't bet on sports. Too difficult.

More losers than winners in the gambling world. Some get rich off the misfortunes of others. Some people develop the gambling addiction and it destroys their lives. Investing in the market is enough of a gamble for me.

The most skilled physicians and surgeons in this country don't make 5% what she makes. As enthusiastically I support capitalism I find this story to be nauseating.

Lucky for her she's female and "of color"...otherwise this would be the top story...the top outrage...on MSLSD every night.

Her father assumed the startup risk. She assumed the expansion risk. They deserve whatever follows. All the best.

What is wealth? When your income revenues exceed your outgoing expenses. I say it’s ok to own things as long as things don’t own you— and don’t want too many things especially ones you never or hardly use. Just my own 2 1/2 cents.

Whoops! My bad! I thought that this was a reference to the BET Network..."Black Entertainment Television".

Well,my basic attitude stands. Except for those who cure cancer or make some other huge contribution to humanity I think it's obscene to make that kind of money.

IOW...Jonas Salk making a billion? No problem. The CEO of Facebook or of some gambling empire making a billion? Outrageous!

And yes,I know that some Freepers will call me a Commie...that's cool.

Right. It’s fair to be critical of public companies that over-compensate their executives. Such compensation is often not in the shareholders’ best interests. But bet365 is a private company. The owners are free to do whatever they want with their company, and their money.

Unfortunately most gamblers employ the mentality that THEY are the exception and will be the one to bring the house down.

I have a friend of 40 years who is a long time member of "G.A." - Gamblers Anonymous. It's a never-ending fight to overcome that mentality.
