Since when does Roberts have the power to appoint judges?

Judges do not appoint judges.

The president puts up candidates for the benches.

Yea but this court is different and super secretive and the Chief Justice is in charge of appointments instead of the president.

Of course that’s wrong, the Chief Justice appoints federal judges to serve on the FISA court. Because that’s the law.

The Act created the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) and enabled it to oversee requests for surveillance warrants by federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies (primarily the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency) against suspected foreign intelligence agents inside the U.S. The court is located within the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse in Washington, D.C. The court is staffed by eleven judges appointed by the Chief Justice of the United States to serve seven-year terms.

The chief justice of the Supreme Court appoints the Fisa judges. This is done in anonymity and is most dangerous.

The FISA judges have done much good and much bad. Their potential for bad far exceeds their potential for good. This court damn near accomplished a soft coup-de-tat. In effect they were part of a cabal of sedition. It must be disbanded.
