2020 Spending Bill: Nancy Pelosi Dams the Flood of H-2B Workers
Breitbart ^ | December 20, 2019 | Neil Munro

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blocked a push by Maine Democrat Rep. Chellie Pingree to double the inflow of foreign blue-collar H-2B workers up to almost 140,000, according to complaints by employers of the visa workers.

“Speaker Pelosi objected to the inclusion of the [Maine Rep. Chellie] Pingree language due to vehement opposition from the labor unions (UFCW and AFL-CIO),” said a December 2017 report by Amusementparkwarehouse.com, which added:

This was despite the fact that authorizing [judiciary] Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren, [Steny] Hoyer, [Joe] Neguse, [Sharice] Davids, [Joe] Cunningham, [Henry] Cuellar and many others made personal requests of the Speaker and her office to include the language in the bill.

Unions dislike the H-2B programs because some companies try to import H-2B “scabs” for well-paid union jobs. For example, in December, Law360.com reported:

A California-based manufacturing company can’t hire 165 temporary migrant employees to build an oil pipeline in southern Texas [because] the pipeline project doesn;t qualify as a one-time employment need, a U.S. Department of Labor appellate board judge has ruled.

Industrial Equipement Silutions Inc. doesn’t qualify to hire pipefitters and welders through the H-2B program … [the judge] ruled Monday, upholding a Labor Department certifying officer’s decision.

The doubling amendment was pushed by landscapers, who are the biggest users of the H-2B program. On December 16, NurseryMag.com reported a letter to landscapers by the policy director the landscaper’s trade association:

…the 2020 Homeland Security appropriations bill in the House included language that made the Secretary of Homeland Security’s release of additional H-2B visas automatic, but with Congress gridlocked on spending bills, we need you to make the case to your elected officials that this change is necessary … We’re working to make that action automatic, and Congress is listening!

Whew. There's a lot of info to unpack in this article. What a convoluted mess these immigration programs are.

ordinarily i dislike it when a union is helped, but in this case, limiting the influx of America-hating immigrants outweighs that.

Outsource visa numbers should be zero.

The union angle is not good. But if anyone can finally stop this corrupt importation of cheap foreign slave type labor ( you obey or I have you sent home!). It will be a big big victory for American workers!

She did the right thing.

Now we need a champion to turn back the tide of H-1B and illegals.

GOOD. We will take all the support we can get to kill all of these programs. We do not need any more immigrants. There are plenty of people here to do these jobs, they just need to pay them more than starvation wages. Also high time that high school kids get off their phones and start working as my generation did. Learn some life skills before you are launched!

I am fine with strictly limiting immigration, and stopping it altogether if it is feasible; I don’t see that happening because it involves more than just workers. Widening areas in this country would be depopulated without them, and while that is fine with me, the elites - and the government worker caste - will have none of it.

A very real concern should be that the fake “shortages” become self-fulfilling prophecies, in the sense that young people avoid the education/training for a growing number of fields because they (rightly) assume the jobs will go to white-collar Asian coolies imported here by the industries involved. When Bill Gates complained that American kids didn’t enter the tech field anymore, he conveniently ignored the fact that his own push for imported Asians was a key factor in that decision by many of them. Now that same dynamic is playing out in other fields; as young Americans see their parents involuntarily idled in the financial sector, for example, they will shun those areas in school - and eventually there will be a genuine shortage.

I understand when some FReepers insist running your own business is the only protection against this, but it simply isn’t feasible for everyone; the smaller companies can’t compete with huge ones that benefit from economies of scale, and heavy investment in tools and technology is much harder.

Other Western countries seem to do a much better job protecting their workers from imported foreign competition; most of them are leftist countries in which, for better or for worse, the elected governments are forced to be much more responsive to their own citizens.

Of course she did. Trump businesses are heavily dependent on H-2Bs. That’s why she did it.

If God can speak through a donkey (Story of Baalam), He can use anything or anyone, including Nancy Pelosi.

Politicians opposing the H-2B worker visa program support the American worker. Politicians who support the H-2B worker visa program are anti- American worker.

Spare me the Bill Gates speech about how we lack certain work disciplines. End the H-2B worker visa program and our schools, employment placement offices and training facilities along with 'Americans' seeking a good job will chase the money/opportunity.

Let’s hope Pres. Trump puts the full package out there. This should be part of a Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement bill, missing since 1987 ONE TIME amnesty. The List of Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, missing since 1987 goes like this -

1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population);
7) Set up an illegal aliens’ victim restitution fund.

Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to SELF-deport, and remove colonizadors from our welfare rolls.

Trump businesses, like all American businesses, should be paying American wages to Americans.
