IIRC one of my SC kids had this book in school. It refers to “Carpetbaggers” as enlightened “missionaries” who went south to bring new ideas to the darkness of the south of the time.

I still remember his soft voice. He was already a legend. With the hot coeds in particular. Why he hasn't been #metood is the reason not to listen to feminists. Zinn and his radical communist agitator friend Eric Mann were sick people.
Ask me about them sometime. I saw him up close and personal. It wasn't pretty.
Zinn can and should be discredited and mocked; however his malign evil influence like that of malign Ailinsky progeny BarackHusseinOsama, has manifested itself in very many milliennials and especially in the Left fascist Antifa new violent (”up against the wall”) young murderers in incubation.
Marquardt is piggybacking on Grabar’s book to peddle an agenda of his own concerning Reconstruction and the Civil War. I wouldn’t necessarily assume that she shares his views about those matters. It’s certainly possibly to disagree with Howard Zinn without buying the neoconfederate agenda.
James Loewen authored the book “Lies My Teacher Told Me” which was filled with his own leftist lies. He is a radical leftist, like Howard Zinn.

Some day people who think they are conservatives will come to understand that it is NOT just ‘those schools’ poisoning the minds of America’s kids, it is literally EVERY SCHOOL, at least every government school...and yes, even the one that YOUR KIDS go to.
But, sadly, I doubt I’ll be around for the day when conservatives finally decide that letting government run education is a bad idea...as nothing has changed in my life time, not one bit.
Mary Grabar is a very good researcher/scholar so I strongly recommend reading her book.
The reviewer, however, left out the fact that Zinn was at one time a secret member of the Communist Party (I believe in the 1950’s) and never admitted it to anyone. He posed as a leftist/liberal, not a hardcore communist/sympathizer. I believe it was Accuracy in Media, then led by excellent researcher Cliff Kincaid, who got Zinn’s files from the FBI’s FOIA library.
His record of supporter communist/Marxist fronts is massive, be it for the CPUSA or the Trotskyite Socialist Workers Party or the once Trots/now back to Stalinist-NORK Workers World Party.

When?
As soon as the democrats kill the second amendment and get the next Hillary or Obama in the White House.
What the leftists will do to Conservatives will make the first Reconstruction look like a walk in the park.
