And BTW, since you bring up Tet... if there had been no Watergate, South Vietnam would have survived. The reason for the Easter Offensive in 1972 (which failed) was because the war in the south was basically won.
But because of Watergate, the US flushed South Vietnam down the toilet. To Ford’s credit, he tried to prevent it.
Don’t underestimate the significance of the Tet Offensive to the average American; they’d been lied to for years that we were winning the war, and the Tet Offensive - even in its failure - made it clear that simply wasn’t true. That so many SOUTH Vietnamese communists could mount those attacks showed we were being fed half-truths all along.
