‘Star Wars’ Fans Are Angry and Polarized. Like All Americans.

The “Star Wars" franchise is among Disney’s most lucrative properties.

A recent study by Morten Bay, a University of Southern California digital media researcher, revealed that over 50 percent of the venom directed on Twitter at Rian Johnson, director of “The Last Jedi,” came from the same sources as Russian election meddling.

Using the analytical tools that other technologists deployed to uncover Russian influence during the 2016 election, Mr. Bay found that “bots, trolls/sock puppets or political activists” were using the “Star Wars” debate “to propagate political messages supporting extreme right-wing causes and the discrimination of gender, race or sexuality” and that “a number of these users appear to be Russian trolls.” So it seems that it was political operatives, not fans, who were denigrating the movie and fomenting some of the virulent racism and misogyny against its cast.

Bullshit. Star Wars fans (we) aren’t thrilled and delighted by the latest installment of Star Wars. It has been building since Disney took over. I have seen every single Star Wars movie in the theatre and this one will be the first time I will not and it is a conscious choice not based on mythical Russian bots which are being used to excuse the Social Justice Feminists who are talking over the entertainment industry. Every movie has to be released in Female Lead Form as a punishment for us not featuring Hillary as Female Lead. From now on future voters will accept that women are better than men and Hillary is a woman and must be accepted as President.

Lots of Nazi imagery and racist themes in the first three to come out. Since Disney got the franchise, they are promoting lesbianism now.

Is that what they are talking about?

Author is a #Gawker refugee who pimped io9 into the Gawker fold, with her 'translesbian' lifemate and is a shekel short of a full wallet.

On contrast, the study author Bay is an Annenberg non-tenure-track soyboy who immediately threw a wet match on Author's assertions:

Though I really appreciate the shout-out (and the piece overall), I must correct the record: It wasn't 50% Russians, it was ~50% political trolls of which most were American and few (maybe) Russian.

And for those of few of you flexing on Twitter, the #ratio has reigned supreme yet again.

I saw the movie, it was as pathos as @HamillHimself predicted.

I engage the loony liberals on Twitter every chance I get. I’m not afraid of mental midgets.

Her pronoun is "they."

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Other than the grammatical confusion.

I am not angry about Star Wars-- I am apathetic. I don't try to convince anyone to not see the latest crapfest. I just refuse to give The Mouse Empire any more of my money than necessary.

I have also tuned out on Trek.

I only went to the most recent Fast and Furious flick because a friend paid for my ticket. I did not see the most recent Mission: Impossible. I tuned out of the MCU (I did see the second Deadpool film, but I don't know if they can corral me for a third dose.)

James Bond gets another shot with me; but even before the recent controversy over the new film's woke-level, I was wondering if 007 needed to hang up his cleats. The last film was a disappointment, and about the only kind of foe that has yet to be battled is space aliens.

Years later, I was thoroughly disoriented when I found out on the news that Star Wars was no longer a movie; it was a nuclear missile defense system described by Ronald Reagan as the most futuristic arsenal ever built. Officially called the Strategic Defense Initiative, the Star Wars weapons system never came to fruition. But it forever changed the way an entire generation thought about the “Star Wars” movies.

Never dawns on the poor little Leftist, that Reagan never referred to it as Star Wars. It was his fellow travelers who sought to dismiss the Strategic Defense Initiative as something not within the realm of reality.

While these bottom feeders continue to trash Reagan ever since, work has gone on. We are developing those defense weapons.

One wonders of when we have them, if the Left would like to make special requests not to benefit from Reagan's foresight.

I think the only company that has a chance is whoever put together the movie Act Of Valor.

I would like to see another movie that company produces.

How much more Star Wars do we need? After the second batch in the late 90s and early 00s I have missed all these new films since 2015.

I’m wondering if a lot of those “far right Russian bots” are created by Disney’s or Lucas Film’s marketing to stir up controversy.

Ah yes, blame the bad reviews on right wing trolls.

The exact opposite is happening. Lefty trolls are the ones trying to torpedo things that do not follow their narrative. Just look at the recent Joker movie comedy specials of Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr.

I guess that we already know how these people would do on a Rorschach inkblot test. The really stupid ones, however, are the ones that keep these fools working. It’s like Gillette losing eight billion dollars this year and if you look at the lefty explanations you would believe that everyone just decided to stop shaving. Still other razor companies saw growth during the same period. The lengths that liberals will go to to defend their propaganda is amazing. .

I think everyone is sick of hearing about alternative genders and racism.

Way past time to knock that woke crap off.
