Western allies fear that Russia will gain sovereignty over Belarus, a former Soviet satellite state that could help preserve Vladimir Putin’s grip on power and sharpen Kremlin threats against NATO members.

“” “” How would annexing be much different than the relationship they have now?”” “”

Belarus is an independent country, it has its own money, its own political, judicial system and armed forces.
And by the way the West calls its president ‘the last dictator in Europe’. He is not a dictator in a true meaning of the word but this cliche in its varieties exposes Western propaganda on a subject as schizophrenic.
If Belarus is the last dictatorship annexing it by Russia may not be a bad thing, isn’t it?
Lukashenko supporters as freedom fighters has to be a hard sell.

I think the Dems are trying to stir things up in the Phillipines now. They wouldn’t allow Durbin and Leahy to enter

Wish we could do that here.

“Lukashenko supporters as freedom fighters has to be a hard sell.”

Neocons will take a run at it anyway.

Just ask Bolton, NRO or any past member of the Bush dynasty.

I believe Russians are generally happy. Belorussians are not.

How do you know Belorussians aren't happy?

I won’t be surprised but I find it interesting that the Belarusian propaganda portrays Russia as part of the West with accent on corruption, capitalism, unequality, sex and violent crime.
That was a sort of propaganda East Germany was running against the West Germany.
It is kind of hilarious to see US ‘defending’ Belarus against Russia in such conditions even if the fight is mostly virtual.

Things have changed since the Cold War.

Now Belarus sees western countries overrun with Turd Worlders, US Garbage Culture with a bunch of faggotry running amuck.

They do have a point.

They might have a point, true but freedom is still important and I’d rather live in the West or even in Russia than in Belarus.
Many people think otherwise, true. Some Germans are still missing DDR and that you said is part of reasoning.

Russia was forced to take in many from the former Central Asian Soviet Republics. Kind of like how the French have been inundated with immigrants from their former colonies.

The Price of Empire!

I think most Belarussians just ignore Lukashenko, it’s a different culture than here in America. I don’t see it necessarily as a repressive country. In fact, I think Lukashenko and Orban of Hungary have a lot more things in common.

Well, Central Asia is somehow culturally different from the French colonies.
As for Belarus you once wrote you watch ‘bald and bankrupt’ Limey vlogger. He has extensive coverage of Belarus and it is clear from his videos it is a socialist country, a piece of USSR frozen around 1980.

Oh, I’m not saying the economy couldn’t be better. But it’s not really my business what kind of economy Belarus has. It does seem to be a stable society, and all the videos of Minsk seem to indicate it’s a very clean city, certainly compared to Paris these days.

Maybe a bit boring, but sometimes, boring is good.

Minsk is boring. Interesting places are Grodno and Brest with its gamous fortress, Belovejskaya Puscha, some old castles and monasteries. It is a rather small country, you can travel it all around and see everything in two weeks by car.

Definitely want to see the Brest Fortress, I've watched that movie several times.

Your sarcastic tirade is not based on facts.
What ‘explosive growth’ in the Baltic are you talking about? Estonia is a single semi-decent Baltic state end the rest are basket cases living off EU sibsidies like they were living off Russian sibsidies under USSR. These ‘thriving’ states are set to lose up to a half of their populations by 2050.
‘Prosperous Ukraine’ is even more laughable. Ukruin with its ‘Western lean’ is not an example even for African countries anymore. It keeps hitting one bottom after another ever since ‘embraced Western choice’.
