Couldnt figure out the instruction manual that came with the baton, or is there an NYPD/DeBlasio rule that says the cops have to carry one but never use it?
When my dad was a street-beat cop in Baltimore during the 1950s, this would have been handled much differently — and much more effectively — in every respect.

And might have ended her career and/or gotten her criminal charges if he died. A chronic drug/alcohol abuser can have lots of health issues which may result in his death from a blow which would not kill a healthy person.
She apparently felt that avoiding trouble was more important than her partner's life, which is something I have no doubt he will remember.
The video shows the female officer delivering love taps with her lightweight extendable baton. 40 years ago it would have been a hollowed out wood baton with a sliding lead or mercury weight in it.
