The unexpected victory of Donald Trump in 2016 is not a sign of recrudescent conservatism but, for traditionalists, actually a desperate last stand. Despite the purplish enthusiasm of conservative Evangelicals for Trump, he is properly seen as a kind of culture-war katechon — a restraining force holding back the mob. As a prominent Evangelical leader confided to me last year, ‘We know that when he goes, we’re done.’ Après Donald, le déluge.

I've been thinking this for a while now. In the long run next year's election may not mean anything, no matter how it comes out.

The problem with corporations is that they are cowardly. And rarely Conservative.

The problem with Conservatives is that they possess memories like goldfish, have short term thinking, and rarely fight.

The left are the opposite. While their rank and file/grass roots are even dumber than our conservative christian base , their evil leadership is wickedly smart and deviously cunning. And their leaders have long term plans and goals of total domination over their enemies.

WHAT have “conservatives” conserved..?

Marriage?

Sex roles?

Family values?

Gun rights?

Ethnic composition?

This is why the left wants the scalp of Trump. Because Pence has shown himself to be a weak eunuch.

140,000,000 Trump Voters (and Families) must start the same effort towards the HATE FILLED left. Boycott, really BOYCOTT, Leftist companies or shut up already. There are brands I won’t touch. If 139,999,999 did same things would change.

I remember that when the first two states had their constitutional marriage amendments overturned by federal courts. But the outrage at the homosexual agenda wasn’t about that.

The outrage at the time was all about some cable TV channel that suspended a reality TV star over his correct opinion of gay marriage. The ratings of this show then went through the roof. They sold all this merchandise for this thing after they suspended him. Both parties made a lot of money over it. Eventually both parties made up so they could do more meaningful reality TV.

There must have been 100 threads about this kabuki theatre reality TV show outrage for every 1 about the first two actual states having their constitutions violated by the courts.

That’s when I knew we were in trouble.

Times change and taking the attitude that we have already lost is unhelpful.

It’s time to push back instead of holding the line.

We need reactionaries not conservatives.

What an incredibly long-winded article saying everything that we already know. And that said yes it is absolutely sad the Chick-fil-A caved in and they will be shaken down and probably take him down to the roots and the company will not ever be the same. But on an individual basis I have not thrown in the towel and neither has anybody else on this board thrown in the towel to the culture War. We are Fighters and that is who we are. So to say that the culture war is lost is a complete lie from the pit of Hell. I’m really tired of people who just give up.

BS, this article is defeatist Never-Trump drivel. The trends on abortion are strongly pro-life and that issue alone is waking up millennials. Mainline Christianity has been irrelevant for more than 50 years after it abandoned genuine faith. Trump is hardly tearing Evangelicalism apart, he is unifying it and exposing those frauds that have hidden within its ranks. Contrary to this article, there are many reasons to be optimistic. It’s always darkest before the dawn.

I just read this in The Federalist and I hope this thread will accept a small diversion.

This is about that creep Christopher Wray and Wray is taken to the woodshed. Hopefully, that cretin will be dismissed shortly.

“The SJWs are highly illiberal, extremely moralistic leftists focused obsessively on sex, gender and race. They are strongly motivated to exercise power against their perceived enemies. Their power derives from their support at elite universities, among fellow travelers in the media and, bizarrely, within leading corporations, who have pioneered woke capitalism as a marketing method.”

There is a very simple reason why corporations support SJWs and it’s not at all bizarre.

Corporation by their nature are amoral. Their reason for existence is the bottom line. Most of all they don’t want a mob descending on them and causing havoc, bad publicity, organized boycotts and crashing sales. Who needs that?

The left has been superb at scaring the crap out of the CEOs with their activism and their mobs. They are quick to pounce on any company that strays from the social justice agenda, and to make their lives miserable.

What have we on the right done in response? NOTHING! We’ve sat on our asses while the left has taken over most corporations by threatening to make their lives miserable.

So if you’re a CEO of a major corporation and you are faced with the choice of supporting someone who will cause you unbearable pain if you don’t kowtow to their demands, versus someone who will do absolutely nothing to you regardless of what you do, who are you going to support?

We could have kept the corporations o our side if we only had made their lives even more miserable than the left did. But we chose not to.

Chick-fil-A sells fried chicken.

Has he ever been to a Chik-fil-A? They don't sell fried chicken. Lots of different chicken, but fried, I don't remember seeing.

the catastrophic sex abuse scandals, which began in Boston in 2002, annihilated the moral authority of the Catholic church. . .

And yet, within Catholicism, the main result has been to keep the Leftist homosexuals out of the seminaries and bring the culture warriors in. The current generation of future priests is very traditional (lots of Latin), very conservative, very STRAIGHT, and eager to take on the sick culture. It's not a cush career anymore. It's combat. This will be interesting.

I wouldn't be shocked if Protestant seminaries were experiencing a parallel "flight to quality." Any intel on that?

Give me a break. The “surrender in the Battle of Chick-fil-A was a monumental symbolic loss.” Who is the drama queen? Dreher? Typical loser without belief in the Lord’s resurrection.

Chick Fil A is a company with a good product and stupid advertising, like Energizer, Carl’s Jr. and Nike.

Culture war: understanding that all seven billion people have one enemy and one Messiah and we know who won two thousand years ago. Time to get with the program, Dreher.

Dreher writes for the New York Slimes as their token "conservative" (after David Brooks), right?
