US hits pro-Iran group with deadly strikes in Iraq, Syria

The US has carried out air strikes against a pro-Iran militant group in Iraq, killing 19 fighters, two days after a rocket attack that killed an American civilian contractor.

The Pentagon said on Sunday it targeted weapons caches or command and control facilities linked to Kata'ib Hezbollah (KH) in Western Iraq, as well as Eastern Syria, in response to a barrage of 30 or more rockets fired on Friday.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said "we will not stand for the Islamic Republic of Iran to take actions that put American men and women in jeopardy".

Four US service members and Iraqi security forces were also wounded in Friday's attack at the K1 Iraqi military base in Kirkuk, an oil-rich region north of Baghdad.

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said on Sunday the air strikes were successful, and he did not rule out further action to "deter further bad behavior from militia groups or from Iran".

"KH has a strong linkage with Iran's Quds Force and has repeatedly received lethal aid and other support from Iran that it has used to attack" coalition forces, the Pentagon said earlier, referring to the external arm of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Nineteen fighters were killed by the US strikes in western Iraq, while several were wounded, according to an official from the Tehran-backed Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary force.

A few hours later, four rockets exploded near a base housing US troops close to Iraq's capital without wounding anyone, an Iraqi security official told AFP.

The military spokesman for Iraq's outgoing prime minister Abel Abdel Mahdi decried "a violation of Iraqi sovereignty".

It’s being reported in Arab press that there are 25 dead, including 3 Iranian officers, and 50 wounded from our strikes.

And the Iranian militias are mad as hell.

In that context they’ll likely do something really stupid.

The US Embassy in Baghdad has been evacuated and all US forces in the region on alert.

I love when we actually USE all the wonderful ordinance my tax dollars helped fund. Can’t we limit it to this, and whenever we need an assassination done, just hire the Israelis to do it?

Re not ruling out future military action against this Hezbollah/Iranian terrorist group - DON’T STOP MILITARY ACTION AGAINST THEM 24/7 IF YOU’VE GOT ACCURATE INTELLIGENCE INFOR AS TO WHERE THEY ARE.

Just pound them day and night, then hunt them down on the ground. Take only enough prisoners to get information from. Kill all the rest.

If you can’t deliver a strong and continuous message, don’t waste your breath on weak stuff.

The fighters who attacked America caused not fear or repatriation but caused a people not ready to be subjugated to strike back. This brought damage to the home of the fighters, not treasure. As the Q’uran teaches they are fools and a shame to Islam. Also as the Q’uran instructs the people of America are not yet ready to be subjugated, further attacks at this time are not sanctioned by Allah until the people are further prepared to submit to islam.

This is the teachings of Islam.

They do not think like us.

“Since October 28, at least 11 attacks have targeted Iraqi military bases where US soldiers or diplomats are deployed, including five rockets that hit Al-Asad air base on December 3, just four days after US Vice President Mike Pence visited troops there.

A US source has said pro-Iran factions in Iraq are now considered a more significant threat to American soldiers than IS”

Then the “Persians” need to get started and take their country back.

Only way I want involved in Iran is if they attack us in a major way or invade some other ally in the region.

Our troops need to be out of the Middle East and from being used as tripwire pretexts for wars.

That’s why there’s never any end to eternal Middle Eastern wars. You fight or destroy one “faction” and soon you have another. On and on and on and on. For 22 years we’ve been “helping” Afghanistan become a “democracy” and how’s that worked out so far? Yesterday the umpteenth truck bomb exploded and killed 50 people. There will be umpteen more. With America $72,000,000,000,000 in debt, we can’t keep the lid on everything, everywhere any longer. Especially when no lid can be kept on.

Bush, McCain, Obama, and all the rest of the meddlers stirred up most of this shyt. We should never have entered Syria either. Need to let Assad and Russia take care of ISIS and the rest. Only way I want intervention is if Israel is invaded or attacked again or if another legitimate government is threatened with being toppled.

How many other countries do these people have to make a catastrophe out of before they learn.

Bush’s biggest mistake was not taking out the regime in Iran after getting rid of Saddam. The timing was right & Iranians were hoping he would. Had he done so, the IRI wouldn’t have been involved in supporting & trying to take over in all these countries, and wouldn’t have been supporting terrorism worldwide. Unfortunately, instead of listening to Cheney & a few others who knew we had to get rid of the Iranian regime in order to achieve stability in the region, he listened to bad advice, and we’ve been dealing with the results ever since.

"A US source has said pro-Iran factions in Iraq are now considered a more significant threat to American soldiers than IS”

It's hard to imagine this problem wasn't foreseen during Obama's withdrawal, especially at a time during which the Iran Deal was being formulated and pallets of cash sent to Iran.
