I could well be wrong. I don’t see the “non-legal” sellers going away and they may well be able to undercut the price of the legal weed because, of course they won’t be paying the taxes that the state is charging.
In any case, once weed is legal in Illinois in 25 1/2 hours, how is anyone going to know if the weed in one’s possession is ‘legal’ or not? Everyone in Illinois who is a user right now has been buying from a local dealer, who of course is breaking the law.
If the ‘illegal’ sellers can supply a decent product at a lower price, why would their customers switch to the authorized sellers? That’s why I asked about what the marijuana business is like in CA and CO. Have the legal sellers driven out the illegal sellers or are more people than ever indulging?
There is the problem of the fact that rightly or wrongly, marijuana is still illegal under Federal law. If one indulges, one becomes a prohibited person in regards to firearms possession.
Illinois is just a couple of miles from me. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
