I’m not sure why you’d call a guy like this “our side”.

As a rule the right is generally supportive of law enforcement.and normally stand behind them until proven otherwise.
“Our side” and police particularly are the side generally on the receiving end of this kinda crap. In this particular case not. A rare exception to the rule.
