My son was stationed on Balaad AFB 10 years ago, he said that at that time there were about 30 rocket and/or mortar attacks per day. But, since Balaad is the biggest base over there with a very wide “dead zone” around it, most of the rockets and mortars landed in the “dead zone” and caused almost no damage or casualties.

Whelp, 2 Katyas with a 4-mile max range, wildly inaccurate as they are (I had 42 of them fired at me in Afghanistan), this is the cheapest response in a short period of time as they can muster.

The deadlier attacks will come against convoys from the embassy to the airport by IEDs. Maybe a SA-7 or similar platform fired at a US helicopter.
