Nobody is proposing a war with Iran.
We may attack Iran punitively in response to their acts of war but this occupy-and-rebuild nonsense is a thing of the past.
It’s up to them. Do they want to have access to things like electricity and gasoline, or do they want to act like 6th century barbarian savages?
If they choose the latter they should expect a hostile response.
The scenario you describe in post #4 could be referred to as “The Green New Deal”. different fanatics, but similar results.

The sanctions are a non kinetic act of war. We are by the way, winning
The attack on our embassy in Iraq was one failed battle attempting to induce Commander in Chief Trump to remove the sanctions crippling the Iranian economy.
