IMHO, there is probably a much larger enemy plan underway.
The small launch probably was a feint to reveal initial response. i.e. which forces respond first. Branch plan would be for our counter then a massive unleashing of their planned coordinated attack.
I suspect the timetable for these events also is what pushed the Democrats into a hasty impeachment, then perhaps a hold by Pelosi, not wanting to reveal intentions.

The Iranians ultimate weapon, and they used it in Iraq/Iran War 1, is chemical and biological armed missiles. They can threaten civilian cities with them and disrupt US operations. Of course their own Shiites are in the field of fire.
