FLOYD CO., Va. (WSET) -- Floyd County is responding to potential new state gun laws with a militia muster call.

The Unorganized Militia of Floyd County will muster at the Floyd County Recreational Park at noon on Saturday, January 18.

The group says the purpose of the call is to "preserve tranquility, peace and civil order" with a group of volunteers that will come together in case a full militia is needed to "defend the rights and liberties" of the residents of Floyd County.

Be aware the FBI could possibly infiltrate your group.

Possibly? It's a guarantee they would.

Care of guess which groups get more surveillance, Muzzie training camps in TN or American conservative firearms organizations?

On April 19, 1775, British forces were engaged in a running gun battle while retreating to Boston from the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the opening engagements of the War of Independence.

A 78 year old farmer, Samuel Whittemore (also a hardened veteran of the King George War and the Seven Years war) was in his fields when he spotted an approaching British relief brigade under Earl Percy, sent to assist the retreat. Whittemore loaded his musket and ambushed the British Grenadiers of the 47th Regiment of Foot from behind a nearby stone wall, killing one soldier. He then drew his dueling pistols, killed a second grenadier and mortally wounded a third. By the time Whittemore had fired his third shot, a British detachment had reached his position; Whittemore drew his sword and attacked. He was subsequently shot in the face, bayoneted numerous times, and left for dead in a pool of blood.

He was found by colonial forces, trying to load his musket to resume the fight. He was taken to Dr. Cotton Tufts of Medford, who perceived no hope for his survival. However, Whittemore recovered and lived another 18 years until dying of natural causes at the age of 98.

This guy is truly an inspiration for all us old coots, including this infantry and armor combat veteran.

Actually it is west of Franklin and Patrick counties.

Patrick is west of Henry county where Patrick Henry was born.

"situated in southwest VA just west of Roanoke and Franklin Counties."

My apologies for my imprecise comment. Floyd County is to the west of Franklin County and to the west of Roanoke County (more precisely to the "southwest," similarly to Floyd County being to the "northwest" of Patrick County.

If I remember my Virginia history correctly, Patrick and Henry Counties were split up from "Patrick Henry" County.

Also, Patrick Henry was born in Hanover County near Richmond.

Indeed so and a larger portion of HIS country is in the nearby Ferrum area of Franklin & Henry counties.

Ferrum: pronounced Fur-um if you are trying to blend in with the local citizenry. Otherwise in days gone by you might be mistaken for a "revanooer."
