A 21-year-old Aurora man has been identified as one of the U.S. soldiers killed Saturday by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
Miguel Villalon was in a vehicle that was struck by an IED in the Kandahar providence.
The City of Aurora said Villalon was an East Aurora High School graduate and proudly served in the U.S. Army.
Villalon is the second Chicago area service member to die overseas in the last week. On Sunday, 23-year-old Army Specialist Henry Mayfield Jr. of Hazel Crest was killed during an attack in Kenya.
Aurora released the following statement as they mourn the loss of Villalon.
Our prayers and condolences are with the Villalon family during this tragic time, said Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin, a veteran of the United States Army. Miguel was a young soldier with dreams for the future and a desire to make a difference in the world today. Much like all of us who have left from our hometown of Aurora to serve our country, our goal is to do our job well and return to our family and friends. Sadly, Miguel made the ultimate sacrifice as he protected our freedom from the front lines. The City of Lights shines much dimmer because of this loss. Well stand with his family and provide support. Godspeed, young soldier.
We thank Miguel for his courage, commitment and service. May he rest in peace.
We should leave.
GET. THE. F**K. OUT!
As through all history it seems young men fight the wars of old men. Men who have no skin in the game, just a continued desire for power.
Leave now. There can’t be one thing in Afghanistan that is worth another ounce of American blood or 5 cents of our treasure. Pull back, build a strong long range military. Go in, destroy and then leave. Don’t rebuild, let others pay for it. Destroy and come home.
We are losing our best and most of us can see what is not defending this country. They will survive.
(Sorry, long winded rant. Just tired of seeong news like this.)
RIP.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
Damn right!! Bring them home!!!
Likely the roadside bomb came from Iran where most are made.

The real problem is lawyers added all kinds of restrictions to wars they will never fight. It’s lawyers who have no skin in the game. Send their kids to war as EOD techs, and these restrictions will fall by the wayside.
Iranians still killing/maiming U.S. troops after all these years...get out...close embassy and bomb/missile strike as needed when they act up.
WTF x 1000 flying F*cks are we doing in that trashhole? Just admit that we LOST the phony “war” and it sickens me. That goes for the whole Mideast. ZERO f*cks given.
It ended the U.S.S.R and we've been there almost twice as long.
It’s time to stop this crap... Either nuke or MOAB the entire region into oblivion or get the heck out...
My 19 yo daughter is about to leave for basic. Both proud and terrified.
In the case of Afghanistan it’s not the lawyers or the Geneva Conventions. The U.S.S.R. didn’t follow those, and it didn’t work. Afghanistan is a geopolitically impossible country to conquer. Not worth it anyway.
No one can you blame you for either. I hope she comes back home safely.
Now with death of these two soldiers, Trump will retaliate, then the Taliban will in turn attack again. Unless Trump leaves without a cease fire this will NEVER end.
Pray for our soldiers. President Trump or President Biden were not leaving Afghanistan
I’m sure the USSR didn’t play around with them and I was thinking it pretty much bankrupted them. Weren’t the Afghan tribes getting the living crap kicked out of them until the USA supplied them with stingers? Or is that an urban legend?
My sister’s grand daughter is servicing in one of those places...
The proper term, the literal term, is wasted. He was wasted. America deserved to have him live and raise a family. Trillions of dollars down an Afghan rathole, and you still can’t drink the water in Flint.
Yup
