I think the Republicans will fall into line.

If they do call Mulvaney and Bolton, then Hunter and daddy will show too.

No real objections to witnesses, as long as at least two of them have the last name of Biden.

It’s all gaslighting. The deal will be a trial with no witnesses. I have no doubt McConnell already has a handshake deal with his “good friend” Schumer.

The GOP wants Trump gone.... if they can drive down his poll numbers so he loses the election....

They will say they acquitted Trump...it is not there fault

Exactly correct. The GOP want him gone but don’t want there finger prints on it. Heck, Graham didn’t even vote for POTUS. He preferred Hillary Criminal! Can you imagine a House Dem keeping their committee chair after refusing to support Hillary? Not in a million years. Yet the GOP Senate is just fine with Graham not voting for Trump.

Ok, so Bolton testifies, what the hell can say that has not already been said? The president did nothing wrong. If the Dems get their way and their four witnesses testify, then Trump gets his way and the Bidens, whistleblower, Schiffty, Horowitz, Chalupa, Atkinson, dem staff members, etc. are subpoenaed to testify. Please Schmucky, no witnesses.

Why do you assume Trump would get his way? The Senate GOP hasn’t substantively supported POTUS against the coup for 3 years. They’re not going to start now.

The Clinton framework they have decided on already allows for witnesses, if deemed appropriate - they just want to be able to say they are morally superior by blabbing it now.

The factors that don't seem to get much attention are the unwillingness of McConnell to have a full scale trial, taking weeks and weeks of time. But if you allow the Democrats to call their preferred witnesses, fairness almost demands the President to call whoever he wants, and that could get out of hand quick. At the beginning, Trump was suggesting that he would call all sorts of people; Hunter and Joe Biden; Eric Ciaremella; Adam Schiff, and who knows who else. Then as McConnell grabbed control of the story, it seemed that Trump dropped the witness list. I think there had to be some agreement there.

Then, there's the money. The RNC, led by Trump has amassed a nice war chest. Bucking him could be trouble for the GOP Senators, like Collins, who will need help in their re-elections.

You really think the wording of the vote to authorize witnesses will be “only democrat called for witnesses, no Republican or defense witnesses”? I hadn’t thought of that, thanks.

Yes, Dems have already said Biden, etc. are not relevant to impeachment. It’s not a leap at all to think the useless GOP Senate would do the same. That is why POTUS is now publicly saying he wants a dismissal with no trial. He simply does not trust the GOP Senate.

It would go something like this:

Bolton = appropriate
Biden = not appropriate
Biden Jr. = not appropriate
hoaxblower = not appropriate

Lovely. I can see why POTUS wants a dismissal without trial now. He simply can’t trust the GOP Senate to support him.

“Do not get sucked into this BS folks. There were no witnesses in the Clinton trial and there won’t be any in the Trump trial”.

Thank you, Georgia Girl 2.

McConnell has said he will follow the format of the Clinton impeachment. If he does that I have no problems if it leads to additional witnesses.

My understanding is any questions submitted to any witnesses will be in writing and thus removes the grandstanding the Democrats are so desperate to have.

“That’s what this impeachment was all about. Drive Trump’s poll numbers down”.

Well, it didn’t work, did it. His poll numbers are stronger and his support is stronger.

Where's that meme?

If you want to destroy your political party, this is how you destroy your political party.

The Democommies would NEVER IN A MILLION FRICKING YEARS in this situation allow a witness to be called.

If the Republicans allow it, then it might be time to consider working against the Republicans to destroy them (if this self-inflicted wound puts President Trump in jeopardy).

Republicans will not get 51 votes. That’s what Pelosi was shooting for and she might actually have succeeded.

Republican Party, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory for over 150 years.

“Republicans will not get 51 votes”.

51 votes for what? What do they need 51 votes for?
