This week's Torah portion is one of my favorites, Shemot ("names") - Exo 1:1 - 6:1.
Pharaoh got paranoid and hatched the evil plot to kill the Hebrew babies. Well that's certainly not my reason, but rather that it was Pharaoh's fault that Moses ended up in the basket in the river, to be scooped up and loved and cuddled by Pharaoh's own daughter.
You can imagine the scene: "Oh look at this darling, beautiful little baby boy... and he's crying! I'm not just gonna leave him here..."
Thus Moses was raised right in the palace, knowing all the ins and outs of the corrupt establishment. Handy!
