In his state budget proposal, Gov. Gavin Newsom is calling on judicial authorities to create a statewide program that will allow some of California’s poorer drivers to have their traffic citation amounts cut by 50 percent or more.

Which will include 100% of the one million illegal aliens he gave driver's licenses to.

Anyway it is a violation of the 14th Amendment Equal Protection Clause.

"nor shall any State deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws".

“Turning right on a red light without fully stopping will cost you $500 in California.”

Gee. People do that?

This is one of the items on my list of reasons I don’t plan to set foot in California again for the rest of my life. :\

Kinda want to see a 14th amendment case challenging squatting and giving free homes away. How can you enforce codes on homeowners and not do a damn thing about the rat infested camp with half a dozen wild dogs running around it? Why does some homeless person jump to the front of the housing subsidy list vs some disabled person who is living on a $920 a month SSI check?

Newsom’s budget proposes using $11.5 million in state general fund budget money to backfill the courts in 2020-21 for lost citation revenue

So the fines don’t go away, the general taxpayer pays them......................

If you are an illegal alien and get a driver’s lic under a false name and buy a car but never transfer the title...you are immune from all traffic laws.

If you get a ticket it goes to the owner on record.

If you get a speeding ticket it goes to a false name

If you get into a traffic accident just walk away.

No wonder so many illegals want to live in California.

This is just one insane crap the State imposes on its citizens. California is a shi! hole not worthy to be part of America. Rotten communists have taken over.

When does a fine become “excessive” under the 8th amendment?

$1000 for peeling paint on your license plate? Really?

Fines to illegal aliens will be reduced 50%. If you’re a pedophile, deviate or Satan worshiper, fines will be reduced an additional 10%.

Further step towards a three-tiered justice system in California.

1. Police
2. Illegals & Minorities
3. Citizens

Let’s rethink this a little. They won’t collect on illegals, they won’t collect on minorities, they won’t collect on welfare recipients, they won’t collect on LGBT activists, they won’t collect on themselves........ I would say if you cut enough fines out it won’t cover that proposed budget that was put in place. So what’s next, cut fines for poorer citizens to 75% off?

They never learn. If you depend upon traffic violation citations to cover a part of the state budget to full fill state needs, what happens if the cops don’t write them because they don’t happen? And if you cut any do you not create a shortfall for your budget? And if you cut them do the existing fines go up to cover the shortfall to stop a deficit? So if they cut the fines to 50%, but are forced to raise the price of the fines up and not single the poorer out of that, do they actually get a discount with the higher requirement and still can’t pay them? And how long will the not poorer put up with it until they make a fuss by being treated inconsistent?

Tune in next week to the Gavin Newsom Celebrity Circus, if the news will cover the debacle to protect the little nimrod.

Is your license plate paint peeling? Some car owners have been hit with a $1,000 ticket for that.

Qualifying Illegal aliens can simply paint their plates over with Rust-Oleum. Cans of paint will be provided for free at the CA DMV for all who qualify.

Progressive traffic fines. Charging people according to their ability to pay, not according to the offense. That’s a pantload of socialism.

So, they have raised fines to ridiculous levels and discovered that they’re getting less revenue. So their solution is to keep sticking it to the so-called rich and lower the fines for the so-called poor. When in reality they should have lowered the fines for everyone. This is basically the admission that traffic fines in California are strictly for revenue, not at all for safety. I’m so surprised.

Carrying this to its logical extreme, California should have longer jail sentences for people with more money and shorter sentences for people with less money when they commit the same crime.

There’s not a bit of difference between that and this traffic fine business.

From what I read they would “backfill” (thats the word they used!) from General Funds the amount not paid by a driver who is given a discounted amount to pay as opposed to the original fine . So in essence the general public pays the balance...how insane my state of birth (1961 San Jose) is ...

Traffic fines are supposed to be punitive.

People are now complaining that punitive fines are punitive? How about parking the car properly, or stop before turning on a red light?

That would result in a 100% reduction in the fine.

We had a peeling paint problem in NY State and Comrade Cuomo wanted the license plate owners to pay for replacements.
The hue and cry was so loud Cuomo capitulated. Frickin' idiot.

Equal protection went away long ago. Hispanics can be drunk drivers and repeatedly offend. Cops let them loose because they dont want bring charges against people who may be here illegally.

The fines today are about revenue and not safety
