WATCH: Collins Pinpoints Precisely Why Americans Should Be Concerned About Dems' Impeachment Saga

House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Doug Collins (R-GA) sat down with Fox News' Mark Levin to discuss the Democrats' push to impeach President Donald Trump, which is set to air Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST.

In a preview of the interview, Collins explained how a comment Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) made is rather revealing.

"I'm going to go back to a statement by the Majority Leader, Mr. Hoyer from Maryland and he made a very revealing statement. For anyone who's concerned about [the] Constitution and rights, and especially me, and even those who, my Democratic counterparts who worry about their communities where they discuss police action and rights being violated. It's a matter of – it's amazing to me they're willing to set that aside to come up with this. Steny actually said, 'The president – we allowed him every opportunity to come prove his innocence,'" Collins recounted.

The Ranking Member asked if the Bill of Rights and due process were suddenly suspended.

"Did we suspend the Bill of Rights and any modicum of due process?" Collins asked. "I don't care if you think this president ought to be impeached or not. This is irrelevant. This should bother everybody with how it came to be..."

"When the Democratic left made a promise that, 'We're going to impeach him,' and it takes means, motives and opportunity. The means was how they can do it. The motive was that they didn't like him. They hated the way the economy was doing," Collins explained. "They looked at their 2020 field and said, 'This is a disaster' and said, 'You know, we got to do everything to investigate him, to harass him, do everything we can.'"

The Ranking Member brought up a very valid point: most of the freshman Democrats in the House ran on the fact that they wanted to impeach President Trump. Everything else was on the back burner.

Regardless of how any American feels about the president, they should want him to be afforded the same opportunities and right to due process as every other American. We've now gone down this road of "guilty until proven innocent" – something that would cause the Founding Fathers to roll in their grave – and now it's likely to continue in the future. Is this something we're likely to see whenever we have a divided government?

Tried three times and still can’t understand what this article is trying to say. The author is quoting Collins quoting the Majority Leader but it’s so poorly written I can’t figure out what part of the paragraph is the quote from the Majority Leader. And if Collins is “pinpointing the precise reason” what exactly is it? It looks to me he’s just observing (like everyone else) that the President had no due process int he House.

I wish I could come up with a catchy way of saying:

This impeachment is based on feelings, not the law.

There is no law that covers ‘abuse of presidential power’.

Last sentence paragraph three. We(meaning House Dems) gave the President every opportunity to come to us and PROVE HIS INNOCENCE.

This is the statement that Collins is bothered by. And, so should every American.

from Collins statements....... he is pointing out that Good Ol Steny baby and the rest of these clowns are saying this:
“Steny actually said, ‘The president – we allowed him every opportunity to come prove his innocence,’” Collins recounted.

it's @$$ backwards from the Bill of Rights, our constitution, etc. You ARE INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty. They are saying he is already PROVEN GUILTY and he's responsible for showing up to prove his innocence. These clowns can jump back in their clown car and drive off.

Who else is just sick to death of all of this? I think there is such a movement in this country towards favoring DJT that it is becoming overwhelming. DJT just keeps on like energizer bunny. Nothing stops him. MSM is getting more disgusting every day.

PS: still waiting for Avenotti to announce for prez. run. bwahaaaa.

Exactly. NEVER vote for communist RATs for anything.
Virginia is now seeing the results of not following that.
They’re godless, anti-American SOBs hell bent on the overthrow of our country.

This impeachment baloney is just an attempt by the leadership of the Democrat Party to keep federal law enforcement from investigating and prosecuting them.

My liberal (friend) says this all the time, "Trump was given a chance to prove his innocence."

I told him he knows little of America or our laws.

[[We(meaning House Dems) gave the President every opportunity to come to us and PROVE HIS INNOCENCE.]]

Excellent point- that proves right there that this whole thing is an unjust witch hunt- noone has to prove their innocence when accused of wrong doing- sure it helps- BUT, it is the prosecution’s job to prove guilt- not the defendant’s job to prove innocence

In any normal court proceedings, the evidence was just not there, and nothing was proven beyond a reasonable doubt- but they went ahead and impeached him anyways-

The left have bastardized a very serious process- cheapened it- delegitimized it by impeaching someone with absolutely no evidence of wrong doing- no evidence of a crime-

They claim they didn’t have to prove a crime- they claim the President has to prove his innocence- that’s BS-

IF the republicans have any honesty in them, they should immediately come out and declare that it is not up to the defendant to prove innocence, it’s up to the prosecution to prove guilt of a crime, and there was no proof- so the whole impeachment is invalidated- AND point out that they are not going to allow the left to bastardize a solemn and serious process of impeachment-

What does he say when you tell him “innocent until proven guilty” is the standard...?

“prove his innocence”. That turns the American justice system on its head and is an extremely dangerous thought to be introduced to the body politic.
