On Monday, President Donald Trump's legal defense team filed a 109-page brief (171 pages long including appendices) urging the U.S. Senate to reject the Democrats' articles of impeachment. The letter deconstructed the impeachment case and denounced the very charges as "an affront to the Constitution."
"The Articles of Impeachment now before the Senate are an affront to the Constitution and to our democratic institutions. The Articles themselvesand the rigged process that brought them hereare a brazenly political act by House Democrats that must be rejected," the lawyers wrote. "They debase the grave power of impeachment and disdain the solemn responsibility that power entails."
"The process that brought the articles here violated every precedent and every principle of fairness followed in impeachment inquiries for more than 150 years. Even so, all that House Democrats have succeeded in proving is that the President did absolutely nothing wrong," Trump's legal team argued. "After focus-group testing various charges for weeks, House Democrats settled on two flimsy Articles of Impeachment that allege no crime or violation of law whatsoevermuch less 'high Crimes and Misdemeanors,' as required by the Constitution. They do not remotely approach the constitutional threshold for removing a President from office."
Yet fighting this impeachment is about more than just defending the president, the lawyers argued. "The diluted standard asserted here would permanently weaken the Presidency and forever alter the balance among the branches of government in a manner that offends the constitutional design established by the Founders," they wrote. "House Democrats jettisoned all precedent and principle because their impeachment inquisition was never really about discovering the truth or conducting a fair investigation. Instead, House Democrats were determined from the outset to find some wayany wayto corrupt the extraordinary power of impeachment for use as a political tool

Russia was about removing a duly elected president.
Make no mistake about it, Ukraine also about that, but is equally about turning the narrative away from Biden, Pelosi, and untold others.
I have never seen the Democrat party is this binge a state of desperation.
Binge = big
A forgivable mistake.
After all, you were discussing Pelosi.
they would just lie.
In years past, all this fine legal work would be inaccessible to the public and hidden by the Fake News.
The only transparent about the way the Dems (and their lapfops in the press) conducted the impeachment proceedings was the totally corrupt way it was conducted -- with no due process for the President.
I scanned the first few pages, enough to know it's been prepared with great diligence and constant reference to the Constitution.
Bravo Zulu!, my shipmates!
ONLY trust Roberts if you believe theres no such thing as Obama Judges.
.
Nobody Expects the Impeachment Inquisition!

Even if the articles of impeachment are dropped, Joe and Hunter Biden need to be held accountable and face justice.
I agree, and in my view, the most important sections are those at pages 102-107, and 98-102, in that order.
The parts I have read are excellent. I would have put more emphasis on footnote 751 on page 104, which shows that in December 2015 major publications had made it clear that any investigation of Burisma would involve an investigation of Hunter Biden, and that it was virtually impossible for Joe Biden to be unaware of this, and therefore, when Joe Biden forced the firing of the Ukrainian prosecutor in February 2016, Joe must have known that he was protecting his son. Footnote 751 states:
"The Money Machine: How a High-Profile Corruption Investigation Fell Apart, supra note 740 (The credibility of the United States was not helped by the news that . . . Hunter had been on the board of directors of Burisma); The Editorial Board, Joe Biden Lectures Ukraine, N.Y. Times (Dec. 11, 2015), https://perma.cc/P9JH-YEBP (Sadly, the credibility of Mr. Bidens message may be undermined by the association of his son with a Ukrainian natural-gas company, Burisma Holdings, which is owned by a former government official suspected of corrupt practices.); Paul Sonne and Laura Mills, Ukrainians See Conflict in Bidens Anticorruption Message, Wall St. J. (Dec. 7, 2015), https://www.wsj.com/articles/ukrainians-see-conflict-in-bidens-anticorruption-message-1449523458 ([A]ctivists here say that [Joe Bidens anti-corruption] message is being undermined as his son receives money from a former Ukrainian official who is being investigated for graft.)."
The President's Brief also makes the important point that Joe Biden does not get any immunity from examination simply because Trump might benefit politically from an investigation of Biden. The Democrats have never offered any legal basis for their position that Biden could not be investigated because of his status as a political opponent of Trump.
I also would have more fully developed the point that Trump's legitimate interest in possible Ukrainian corruption would cover any corrupt acquiescence by the Ukrainians in a corrupt effort by Joe Biden to protect Hunter and the huge income stream that Hunter was receiving from Burisma.
Lol, they quote Lawrence Tribe in defense of Trump.
That’s gotta hurt.
Thank you!
President Trump is eligible and doing a great job.
And all of his RAT accomplices who actually did "obstruct justice"....plus Omaeba and the Hildabeast.
Bkmrk
lol...
I hope Trump's lawyers do not play up this argument. It is not a winning argument with Senators, who would be glad to enhance the power of the Legislative Branch (i.e., their own power) at the expense of the Presidency.
It's a good argument if the people were the jurors, but it may backfire with Senators.
I was born during Roosevelt's term and have experienced every President since, and none compare to this man.
