BEIJING (AP) — Chinese authorities Thursday moved to lock down three cities with a combined population of more than 18 million in an unprecedented effort to contain the deadly new virus that has sickened hundreds of people and spread to other parts of the world during the busy Lunar New Year travel period.
The open-ended lockdowns are unmatched in size, embracing more people than New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago put together.
The train station and airport in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, were shut down, and ferry, subway and bus service was halted. Normally bustling streets, shopping malls, restaurants and other public spaces in the city of 11 million were eerily quiet. Police checked all incoming vehicles but did not close off the roads.
Authorities announced similar measures would take effect Friday in the nearby cities of Huanggang and Ezhou. In Huanggang, theaters, internet cafes and other entertainment centers were also ordered closed.
In the capital, Beijing, officials canceled “major events” indefinitely, including traditional temple fairs that are a staple of holiday celebrations, in order to “execute epidemic prevention and control.” The Forbidden City, the palace complex in Beijing that is now a museum, announced it will close indefinitely on Saturday.

But DO pay attention to the fact they've isolated nearly 20 million people from the rest of the world.
China is not a country prone to emotional overreaction. And the passions of crowds have little or no influence on official acts.
This tells the world the problem is far more serious than official government reports indicate.
I am very interested to see if this will actually work as prep for when something really deadly comes up.
If any nation can do it, China can.
For all the coverage, I just caught the actual population of Wuhan today. Just imagine NYC, and then some, quarantined. Unbelievable.
Sort of funny how China how these mega cities nobody knows about. I never heard of Wuhan until the SHTF.
AND if needed they would eliminate those 20m with not a second thought.
Someone needs to file a suit and have a Democrat Judge overturn China’s decision.
+/-10% death rate might just be enough to tip China into chaos but not civil war; and Xi would probably rather have the latter cuz he sure do seem to loathe him some chaos.

It’s well known that the official Chinese/WHO numbers are bogus.

And it’s also likely more virulent than reported as well.
Why else would China wall off 20 million people and dress all official persons in hazmat suits?
Their behavior looks more like Ebola.
Nevertheless, the most circumspect country in the world is scared.
