China has 1-2 Billion of “excess population”. China invents new virus. Virus “escapes”. China loses 1 Billion in excess population. Now China is greatest nation on earth.
The original city is China’s sixth largest—the U.S.counterpart is roughly Phoenix, but though since China is much more urbanized, one in 70 people live in the Chinese city—though if you count the Phoenix urban area, you get about the same ratio. The quarantine is roughly proportional to having the populations of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah quarantined
An eastern version of the analogy could likely be run, by I’m from the west. I think that North Carolina and West Virginia would give you about the right population for the present quarantine.
