And then, if the vote was to allow a witness called by the D's, Trump could, subject to his trial plan, assert executive privilege and take the matter through the federal court system to the USSC.
The legal issue in one form would be under what circumstances should a president's right of executive privilege be outweighed by a political fishing expedition (there being no underlying criminal offense).
The process would likely consume a period of several weeks. It would be entertaining to see the D's and the MSM's spin during that period.
The problem is that they might do it. The Ds really want to drag this out as long as possible.

You are certainly right with regard to the latter, especially with the MSM beating the drums 24/7, but it could backfire.
If Trump is confident of the testimony of his witnesses his team might be anxious to examine as hostile witnesses any number of D actors. Such testimony, even if limited to depositions could be used in the current action and, perhaps, any contemplated criminal actions.
(It appears the likely view is that the federal courts would recognize limiting a president's executive privilege will severely restrict the role of the Executive Branch.)
Good point. Like if it was reversed the Dems would do the same for Republican Presidential candidates.

I watched the Republican response, and it was masterful, imo. It was also strategic, with a nuclear bomb in the middle of the House charge, and a promise to come back and kill them again.
Even the NPR response grudgingly admitted that the Trump lawyers were”effective.”
I look forward to the public disemboweling of this freak show Monday and Tues.

If you watched it (2 hours and a few minutes) you would take your foot out of your mouth, peel the sock from your throat, and say what a great job they did...their bare-bones opening was concise and debunked 99% of what the Dems have been claiming, pointed out what a liar Schiff is, how their whole “case” is smoke and mirrors that withhold the greater part of the actual facts - which are all on Trump’s side, and how Nancy overstepped and had no authority to tell the committee to gather info or subpoena anything w/o a whole House vote...and they’ve been lying about the WH not working with them or providing any reason why they refused the illegal demands being made by the Dems...
Pretty great start and left folks’ minds uncluttered with boring repetitions and ready for hearing the expounded version on Monday.
