I found no mention by the big fact-crunchers on what was obvious at the time -- Trump was joking.

But the fact-checkers don't seem to care.

A favorite Trump tactic is to drop a bomb on the dems without showing the evidence. The dems throw a major hissy fit and later Trump releases the evidence to show the dems as stupid and liers.
