CDC is monitoring 110 possible coronavirus cases across 26 states in US

U.S. health officials are currently monitoring 110 people across 26 states for the coronavirus, including the five patients who contracted the deadly infection in China and brought it back to America.

The disease, which has killed at least 81 people in China and sickened more than 2,800 worldwide, isn’t spreading within the community in the U.S. and the risk to the public right now is still considered low, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters on a conference call Monday.

“We understand that many people in the United States are worried about this virus and how it will affect Americans,” Messonnier said. “Every day we learn more, every day we assess to see if our guidance or our response can be improved.”

The number of “patients under investigation” in the U.S. has almost doubled from the 63 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said were under surveillance on Thursday. The CDC says 32 people have tested negative for the virus.

“While that number is 110, we are certainly prioritizing based on [patients under investigation] that might be at higher risk,” Messonnier said.

The CDC confirmed Sunday a fifth U.S. case of the virus — a patient in Maricopa County, Arizona who recently traveled to Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the disease’s outbreak and where the majority of cases have been reported.

Messonnier said the CDC has screened roughly 2,400 people flying from Wuhan to five major U.S. airports and is considering expanding its screening. The agency increased its travel warning for all of China, asking people traveling to practice “enhanced precautions.”

“This outbreak is unfolding rapidly and we are rapidly looking at how that impacts our posture at the border. We’re certainly considering broadening of that screening,” she said.

Look on the bright side. It’s made in China, and we know about the longevity of those products.

This could very well be a contestant for post of the year.

Close the borders and ban all flights from China. Ban all cruise ships. Eventually, the USA will have to shut down all passenger interstate travel.

I wonder if this will prompt more people to get a flu shot? I personally don’t get one but I believe more people would stand in line for a shot.

I would also like to add that while you say slowing the spread is “ineffective”, in fact, slowing is equivalent to lowering the basic reproduction number of the virus, which IS effective.

“These likely aren’t Trump’s people.”

I’m thinking Directors of DOT and FEMA. I think those two could step in and manage inbound flights, and also quarantine of Chinese already here.

[A one sided debate is no debate at all.
My argument that quarantines only slow progress. Spanish Influenza St Louis (1918). Imposed earlier than other cities and REDUCED the death rate to 70% below the national average. It did not PREVENT the spread.]

So instead of 10 people dying, only 3 did. That’s a pretty impressive result.

The valve is for exhalation. I recommend it, because without it what eventually happens is the mask gets moist from your own breath and becomes progressively harder to breathe through. Easily venting your exhalation keeps you from breathing the same stale air and getting too much co2. n95 masks, when fit properly, are very unpleasant to wear for an extended period of time. If you’re planning to wear it shopping or on a bus, etc. that might be fine, but if you want to wear it for hours on end, you’re gonna be pretty miserable.

Trump screwed up from the get go. He should have slapped a huge tariff on this virus to keep it in China.

I have a friend flying to Denver Saturday. I would think, other than having a carrier sneeze or cough near you, air travel is the most dangerous thing you could do regarding this virus.

When is Norton Anti Virus™ going to be updated to include the corona virus?

Yes. This is why I am watching to see what happens with all of those people on the various planes with the suspected virus people.

Any clues as how “Never let a Crisis go to waste” will be licenced and implemented by the deep state (or Soros)?

Are all of these US vectors, I mean monitored people, university students, so far? Just curious.

Ok, now that's just not fair.

Actually, Pete is starting to take on the countenance of an old man (well he IS old) while Roger, who took care of himself during the 1970s, remains presentable.

I trust these old mods' views on pandemic more than the WHO.

I purchased all the vented 8500 masks and the non vented 8100 masks available at my local Lowes, military discount. They are selling like hotcakes on Ebay. the 8500 series are 15 pack units and I sold them before I even got the pick up confirmation for the stores, yes plural, they are all sold out now in my area.
I have about 23 left of the 3 pack 8100 series left. I purchased over 100 packs of those. My wife is going to go to the Lowes stores by her work to see if they have any left.
So far I’ve profited a little over 900.00 in a matter of hours. Better than the stock market today.

I’ll be praying that this is just hype but looks as though it’s not going to be. I will however take advantage of the ability to make a profit whenever possible.

We know you can test negative and later test positive.

My question relates to the claim from a whistleblower or fan fiction writer.

If it is a two step process whereby it is designed to be flu and then kick in and you drop dead...at what point will a test pick it up? Flu stage or not until the 2nd stage?

Based on what I am seeing from Docs and Scientists on twitter...your best bet is to protect yourself like you would from the flu and develop a protocol to reduce a cytokine storm.

I have read your posts about cytokine storm...You seem very knowledgeable about this...Do you have website or suggestions regarding how to “develop a protocol to reduce a cytokine storm”???

About quarantine, there’s no need for concern about people walking across borders or arriving by ship. Any of those people who became ill would be non-contagious before arrival. The focus could be on airlines—thorough and not difficult.

Besides China’s reaction to this new disease, I find Trump’s reaction telling. He has barely mentioned it. He talks/Tweets about everything. I imagine they don’t want a panic. It would help if they checked ALL travelers from China, as it has spread across China already.
