Politically, quarantine is a non starter.

If it works, the law suits from businesses and the civil suits from people will make election dicey.

If it doesn’t, more of the same.

So the best political stance is do nothing.

We didn’t quarantine in Ebola, we won’t for this. Sad.

I have a pretty strong libertarian bent as it comes to personal freedom, but liberty is not a suicide pact. Our country has a long history of pretty draconian quarantine procedures dating well back into the colonial period. I firmly believe that any attempt at quarantine would be met with some black-robed tyrant issuing a nationwide injunction, you would have “sanctuary districts” - no human is infectious, after all. Quarantine measures within the borders are challenging, what is absolutely beyond doubt is the president has the authority to restrict travel to or from persons or regions. There will be consequences no matter what the choice, but I choose life, and hope the president does the same.
