Nobody wants dangerous people to get guns. In the wake of the West Freeway Church of Christ attack, people are pushing red-flag laws, which allow police to take away the guns of people deemed dangerous to themselves or others. But a better alternative already exists.

The red flag law of Colorado is not interested in mental health and does not address it at all. It is an unconstitutional over reach to make the groundwork to seize guns.

Yes, this has been around for years, usually based on the person doing something stupid, acting out, etc. At the end of their detention, a judge would adjudicate them as mentally fit or unfit. This is better than just anybody taking away the person’ 2a rights.
What Mr. Lott does not seem to understand is that those pushing and implementing red flag laws are not the slightest bit interested in public safety. They are interested in disarming the law-abiding citizens of this country, and they have finally found a way to do it, albeit somewhat slowly at first. This is all about control and power, not safety. These laws violate due process and the second amendment, and they must all be thrown out as blatantly unconstitutional.
Shouldn’t the right to vote be revoked from the mentally ill - like those in Antifa?
Typical dumbass idea. Identify a deranged psycho with a gun. Raid his house and take his guns. Enrage him, let him watch as his dad’s guns are banged around and taken away. Let him know that coworkers or family has turned on him. isolate him more.
Leave with the guns. Leave this there alone... bitter and more angry that before.
Leave him with gasoline, explosives, knives, hatchets, chainsaws, machetes, axes, rental trucks, cars, poisons, electricity, matches, etc.
If it were me, I think I would lock up the psycho. And this is already fully possible if they are truly a danger and you can demonstrate it.

On Saturday a person in my apartment building decided to cut off his gps ankle bracelet, fire a gun inside his apartment, take a couple of shots out the window at the armored swat vehicle that soon arrived. Well, that set the alarm off for every cop in the area to descend.
A four hour negotiation later the perp is walked out and charged with a long list (to be added to his existing long list) including possessing ammunition without a FOI card, no gun permit(massachustts), discharging a firearm within 500 ft of a residence, attempted murder of a police officer, etc.
No more laws are needed, there are plenty already.
Me, I just took the dog out for a walk in the woods and then got some breakfast as the gas had been turned off in the building and the stove wouldn’t work.
One idiot rang up a huge expense for everybody involved.
It’s also a powerful tool for social control. You speak up for Trump, or against illegals, tranny story hour, moslems, etc... A coworker makes a call. That damned democrat in every family who makes thanksgiving suck makes a call. It gets used in nearly every divorce or breakup the way women accuse you of child abuse today.
A gun owner has to tip toe around being extremely careful about what they say.
Red flag is nazis reporting Jews in the neighborhood. It’s the Soviet grandma sitting in the apartment stairwell, noticing everything in the building. Red flag is weaponizing and empowering anti gunners against normal Americans.

IOW in such situations he/she should be committed to a psychiatric facility. All 50 states have very specific,and well established,laws allowing for that to happen when medically necessary.
Given the laws I just mentioned "red flag" laws have absolutely *nothing* to do with safety and *everything* to do with contempt for 2nd Amendment rights.

I’m waiting for the first legal challenge (not the Ft. Collins cop who got defended by the DA) to kick this off. I’m still wondering why we aren’t parked in front of the legislators house who introduced this Bloomberg strategy.
I remember reading of a man who’s home was raided and his MINT CONDITION unfired Thompson sub-machine gun, legally licensed and registered confiscated.
It took him several years of lawsuits to get his Thompson back, and when it was returned to him it was a rusted up wreck.
Our dictatorial governor has signed laws undoing the laws the people passed like the crude oil bill and now are after the death penalty to establish their dictatorship. This explains the gun laws, magazine laws and even the gay mandates.
Anyone who cannot be trusted to be armed should not be running around loose.
