Hundreds of Americans will be be removed Tuesday from the epicenter of the deadly coronavirus in Wuhan, China, on a charter flight to California, according to a report.
The operation will fly out only some of the estimated 1,000 US citizens trapped in the city, which has been on lockdown after the virus broke out there last month, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Officials secured the charter plane, which seats around 230 people, to transport US diplomats and their families, as well as an extremely limited number of private citizens from the citys closed airport, the outlet reported.
Its unclear where exactly the flight will land, but some who have snagged seats were told it was headed to Ontario, Calif., which is east of Los Angeles, according to the report.
But before that, it will stop to refuel in Anchorage, Alaska where passengers will disembark for a health screening, officials in the state told the outlet

Anyone found to have the virus will be quarantined in a hospital near the North Pole!
one person and her daughter have a seat but they have no idea how to get there. no public transportation
Given the 14 day or so incubation period, everyone needs to hang out for two weeks in Alaska.
quarantine in Alaska please...
JAPAN: Chief government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said 560 Japanese citizens are confirmed in Hubei and chartered evacuation flights are being prepared to leave “as soon as possible.”
FRANCE: Health Minister Agnes Buzyn said French citizens who want to leave Wuhan will be taken on a direct flight to France in the middle of the week, and then held in quarantine for 14 days. French automaker PSA, which produces Peugeot and Citroen cars, said it was evacuating its expatriate employees and their families from Wuhan and quarantining them in another city.
SRI LANKA: The embassy in Beijing has applied for a Sri Lankan Airlines plan to be allowed to land at the Wuhan airport to airlift home 32 Sri Lankan students and their family members. The foreign ministry also said it was working to bring back all other Sri Lankan students throughout China. About 860 Sri Lankan students are in China.
AUSTRALIA: Foreign Minister Marise Payne said her government is “exploring all opportunities” to help with evacuation of a number of Australians reportedly in Wuhan.
GERMANY: Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that his country is considering evacuating its citizens from Wuhan, with a government crisis response committee meeting soon with medical experts to evaluate the situation. He said the number of German citizens in Wuhan is in the double digits.
THAILAND: Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said his country’s Defense Ministry was ready to evacuate its citizens from affected areas in China, but hadn’t yet received permission from the Chinese government. It can be transmitted before symptoms develop, and there is no specific treatment. What could possibly go wrong?
Like Fukushima killed nuclear power, China's virus factories should be the end of money losing buses and commuter trains. Taking Uber would be far cheaper and safer.
pong
The reaction of the governments tells me more about how serious this is than anything the CDC or China has to say.
Escape From Wuhan: A true Story of Survival. Screenplay to be written someday.
I feel sorry for the people who can’t escape among the 1,000 Americans there. Why they went there, who knows? I heard Chinese make millions of dollars a year from American tourists.
My dead mother-in-law (whom I thoroughly hated in life and still do) was a tourist there with her ugly crone friend. So thrilled to walk on the Great Wall. Impressed by Chinese life today. Phooey. Both ardent Dems who belittled me for Reagan. A badge of honor for me.
That anti-God, anti-American, Communist country.
And to have to be trapped among them with no way to get out.
why ? they are likely bringing it with them.
Somehow I doubt these flights will be full of folks named Smith or Jones.
L
I guess this is where electric cars come into play because gas is a problem in Wuhan even if you do have a car.
Your vitriol towards your mother in law made me LOL. I actually like mine but totally get those who dont.
People aren’t getting proper care there - the hospitals are overwhelmed, supplies low, etc. There’s a much greater chance of dying there than here.
There are 64 people being treated in various countries outside of China and no one has died.
It will be interesting to hear first hand accounts unfiltered by ChiCom cesnsors.
Glad I could make you laugh.
She's been dead for 20 years and I sometimes feel a little forgiving for a few minutes. Then it goes away.
