“So you think Mitch called Romney and encouraged him?”

All I’m saying is it wouldn’t shock me. I don’t believe Mitch likes Trump, and he certainly didn’t push through a MAGA agenda when the GOP had control of both Houses. We got Ryanist tax cuts for corporations, but no wall, no immigration cuts, no infrastructure (something Trump promised in the 2016 campaign), no health care reform based on “getting rid of the lines” (between states) as Trump promised, etc etc.

Like most of the GOP establishment, McConnell has been trying to restrain Trump until his time in the White House is up, so we can get back to Bush-McCain-Romney Republicanism as usual.

I see your points but at this stage of the game it would surprise me if Mitch did encourage Romney or the others.

Romney is nothing but a Democrat Mole anyway. He doesn’t need encouragement.

McConnell doesn’t have to encourage Romney. All he has to do is nothing and Romney will fill the vacuum. As another FReepr pointed out: McConnell is not the point man for the GOP Senate. He does not publicly lay out policy positions and dare his caucus to oppose him like Schumer does. So the GOP mavericks have plenty of room to roam. That’s by design and why they voted for him to be Majority Leader, obviously.

So what’s Mitch gonna do after Trump wins in 2020?? Stall another four years? I don’t think so. The wall is gonna happen, at least large portions of it. We haven’t even really heard Trump’s 2020 platform or agenda yet. I’m sure it will include infrastructure, but in my conservative opinion, Trump is spending WAY too much money. We’re adding more the national debt under Trump than we did under Obama...that’s not good. It’s about the only negative, but I think limited government is the ideal.
