The United States is working to get the Iraqi government's permission to put Patriot missile defense systems in the country to protect U.S. forces there from possible Iranian attacks, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Thursday.
One of the things we need to do is make sure we have permission from the host government, and thats one of the matters we have to work on and work through, Esper told reporters at a Pentagon press conference. We need the permission of the Iraqis.
The U.S. military did not have Patriots deployed at al-Asad airbase in Iraq, which houses American troops, during a Jan. 8 missile attack from Iran.
At least 50 U.S. service members have since been diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) following the missile strike, which was retaliation for the killing of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, who led Irans elite Quds Force.

Hopefully they will refuse permission and we will pack up and leave.
Get the troops out of there PERIOD!!!
Missiles in or troops out was my thought too. That plays to the Iran sympathizers though. So make economic sanctions part of the package. An offer they cant refuse so to say.
It’s amazing we need permission to protect our troops. If we’re bound hand and foot like this, maybe we should leave. Let the Shiites take some casualties for a while, and maybe they’ll learn some gratitude.
Bring the troops home then.
Better yet, get troops out of there.
Why don’t we get out? Americans want it. Iraqis want it.
Instead we are importing Al Qaeda leaders to live in the US.
Ali Yousif Ahmed Al-Nouri, was arrested in Phoenix at the request of the Iraqi Gov’t. He was an Al Qaeda leaders in Fallujah in 2006 when he killed a Lieutenant and a Police Officer there.
Get the hell out of Iraq.
It has been a failed nation building effort started under Bush, double downed by Obama and now needs to be ended by PDJT.
Enough
Its needed for the Embassy compound.
True, time to bring ours guys and gals home.
Why? I thought Iraq told us they wanted us to pull our troops out? Wouldn’t following their request be cheaper than putting up a missile system?
