Romney is an idiot. He cannot vote to "convict" at this stage. He can only vote against acquittal, which means that a trial will ensue, with witnesses and all the trimmings.

Would have been much better for us all if there had been a speedy dismissal. But no. Romney wants to put the country through weeks, maybe months, of an unnecessary sham trial, for what?

I think there is still hope. Where does the vote stand without Romney's. 52-48?

uhh....you need 2/3rds for a conviction, that’s 67. That’s a long way off. From the US Constitution see below

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.
