Years ago, girls understood they should not put themselves into compromising positions. That if a girl voluntarily enters a guy’s bedroom or motel room, that guys will interpret that as tacit consent.

Last year my middle school aged daughter and I got into an argument when I stated that the reality was that women need to make good choices to protect themselves from being assaulted. My daughter was appalled that I would “blame the victim”. I tried to explain that I wasn’t blaming the victim, but rather stating that all women need to take responsibility for their own self preservation and not just say that men shouldn’t take advantage of a drunk woman, etc. because the reality is that there are evil people out there who will do what they shouldn’t do. Living according to what “should be” rather than what is, is foolish.
She sounded like a feminist poster child. I couldn’t believe it. The conversation got quite heated. Hopefully, some nugget of truth took hold even if she didn’t want to admit it.
