He didn't have to wait. They shunned him in 2008 (after all he did for them!). The one thing that McCain, Romney, Flake, and the rest of the "moderates" never seem to figure out. They love the fawning caress of the media as they betray their constituents, until they are no longer useful and are tossed aside. McCain, more than any other craved their love, and would do anything to get it. He was an absolute idiot to continue kissing their feet for approval after the 2008 election.
Ditto with Romney, they were calling him "Hitler" in 2012.
