Under normal circumstances I’d be inclined to agree with the author, but certainly not in this case.

This wasn’t a case of a moderate Republican in a “blue” state like Susan Collins casting an “impure” vote for the sake of political expediency. Mitt Romney represents one of the most reliably Republican states in the U.S., and there was absolutely no downside for him to cast the correct vote to acquit President Trump.

Something else to consider here is that Romney cited his “religion” and “conscience” in his explanation for why he voted the way he did, but gave no explanation of the legal or moral principles that underpinned his vote. As such, we should keep in mind that he has now become the most unpredictable and unreliable person in a legislative body where political principles are absolutely critical in winning the confidence of voters. In other words, he’s an utterly unprincipled and dangerous man who should be treated as a Democrat in every political process from this point forward.

What a load of horse crap from Derek Hunter.

It isn’t “groupthink” that causes conservatives en masse to despise Romney.

It is disgust at a repellent decision by Romney to convict a man on charges that he knows are completely contrived on a partisan basis and to do so as a result of his bitterness and personal animus towards President Trump.

Sheesh. He thinks we are like them in denouncing Romney with his “That’s why becoming them is a bad idea” comment.

What a stupid article.

Mitt Romney is an idiot.

Derek Hunter says Romney is an idiot.

Romney craves attention, don’t give it to him. Ignore him; freeze him out. When asked about him, on any issue, the response should be a simple, “I don’t really care what he does.” The media will elevate him, we don’t have to play along.
But don’t try to run him out of the party either. Be bigger than Democrats. Don’t be them.

In this instance I say Derek Hunter is an idiot.
If POTUS were your child and Romney were a child molester...or is that a bad analogy?

It's how I see it anyway. Choose your own analogy if mine doesn't suit you.

Rand Paul comes to mind as someone who veers away from the party and the president occasionally and honorably — out of genuine conviction and commitment to solid values.

Romney does NOT.

Thanks for posting Kaslin. But you always post without comment and we would not mind hearing from you yourself. I suppose it is not necessary if you think the post speaks for itself.

I find myself speaking on the forum in defense of neverRinos although I have no right to be the self appointed spokesman for anybody. But I appreciate anyone’s kind attention and welcome correction and disputation.

The word “purity” fails if it is designed to be persuasive. The idea is this author understands why we are doing what we do and merely needs to represent it as foolish or unwise. So you see as the thread develops that they simply reject the false characterization of their motives. “It is not about purity...” they say.

There is a point made that “Romney votes with the president 80% of the time.” It is still not clear to me if this is persuasive or not. Surely this is just another way of stating the “lesser of two evils” argument. I have been saying here that the argument is unpersuasive in all its forms. This is not helpful for me to say as obviously the ones who continue to espouse this position most certainly do consider themselves fully persuaded by it. I am correct however that there are a host of conservatives who have finally and absolutely rejected this argument and will not be persuaded by any restatement of it including this 80% idea about Romney.

Do I understand the motives of all these people? Well I have no right to say it...but yeah I do!

Why does the burden of proof fall on you? In most debate it is good strategy to shift the burden of proof to the other side. It is also weak and does not help if we are seeking the truth. The burden is on you to convince if your agenda needs me. I do not need you to agree with me at all. My agenda does not require me to influence your vote, it is the other way around.

BobL, one of the great ones here has been very clear about the judiciary and Trumps leadership and I confess myself almost convinced...maybe.

Good advice, sound judgment. Romney’s little display is not a mountain worth dying on. Move on, pay him no mind; the media will tire of him soon enough when they realize he is no longer a story.

Idiot republicans thirsting for vengeance will only keep the story alive and the media will feast on it make no mistake.
