They aren’t being put in jail for medical debt, they are being put in jail for contempt of court for not showing up to court. That will just about happen every time a court orders you to show up, and you give them the middle finger by not showing up.

Well if so- then that explains it- the person in the story was jailed for that- but are all people who get thrown into jail because they failed to show up? I suspect some aren’t- and are jailed for not paying- divorced people who don’t pay their spouse are jailed- but who knows-

The article said the lawyers are requiring them to appear every 3 months and prove their income. Requiring someone to go to Court 4 times a year is ridiculous.
