A school resource officer in Florida threatened to shoot a student as he was trying to make it to an orthodontist appointment.

Nedra Miller, whose 17-year-old son, William, was the high schooler in question, shared bodycam footage from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office on her Facebook page, where it went viral. People called it "shameful" and "outrageous," accusing the adults involved of "grotesque power trips."

The incident occurred in December and the video shows William driving a pickup truck and attempting to leave the parking lot of River Ridge High School in New Port Richey. An officer with the sheriff's office and Cindy Bond, a school discipline assistant, are blocking his exit, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The video captures William trying to tell the pair that he has permission to leave, but they accuse him of cutting school. The tension boils over when the officer warns William that he will shoot him.

School cops are worse than the movie “mall cops.”

Crazy, and sounds like a lawsuit just waiting to happen.

Kid’s, and his family’s, dental work will soon be paid for forever... Not a bad deal...

Another reason students should be allowed to carry guns... WAIT!, did I just say that?

A kid is trying to peacefully leave, and these 2 a-holes are blocking him and causing all this trouble. Over NOTHING! So a kid leaves. Write him up, let his parents/guardians know, and move on!
This is retardation.

That was fairly mild ‘power tripp’n’ from what I have seen with my own eyes.
The golf cart was a nice touch for the whole ‘petty tyrant’ meme.

“School cops are worse than the movie “mall cops.”

I don’t think they put their best cops in that job. They will either shoot the wrong person when there is no problem or if there actually is something going on..hide.

The rot is everywhere. There’s a lawsuit involving sexual abuse of a student and following school staff and administration misconduct in a town not too far from where I once worked that, well, I almost could not believe it when I heard about it. But if it is even 1/2 true, some school officials better have really deep pockets. I’m not going to post a link now because it could be mostly about opportunistic lawyers, and might in any event start a FReeper flame war, but, when the case gets resolved I’ll post about it on FR.

Hard to complain about prison guards doing their job. If people don’t like it, don’t blame the guards.

He has since been expelled and sent to the Harry Schwettman Education Center for students who have "been recommended for expulsion or have a behavior pattern which has not been improved by a continuum of positive behavior and academic intervention strategies," according to its website.

I could be wrong of course but I am guessing that even if he did have prior approval for a dentist appointment on this day that he was well known to the resource officer and the school discipline assistant.

You don’t typically get sent to the hard case school for one run in with the school authorities.

Maybe the deputy was a little over the top but if this kid had a bad rep with the school, I would give him a little leeway. After all a pickup truck is every bit of a deadly weapon as a Glock

Even if he was busted leaving campus with a six pack of beer, it isn’t an offense worth killing him over. Leftists have been really arming themselves since 2015. They are united in this belief that they determine who is worth keeping alive.

I agree. I think the deputy was rather stupid to stand in front of the pickup in an effort to keep the kid on campus.

But, given that he did and if the kid was creeping up on him with the pickup warning him of the potential use of deadly force was within his rights. But he should have done so in a more professional manner.

My real point is that I think the kid has a history of being a truant and maybe is a kid with a bad attitude.

Maybe you do if the skool authorities feel the need for revenge when their police state tactics are exposed to public view.

Depends on the jurisdiction... I have 28 years of police work experience... my partner has 18... both of us are assigned... willingly ... to the high school where we work. We work for the police, but are assigned to the school. We let the admin handle most things... unless they get out of hand... we are there as a resource for the staff, the students, and the counselors and parents. As well, we are there for the “in case of emergence break glass” moments. We both know that if that happens... either the suspect is dead, in custody, or we have gone down. My guess is a lot of these “school resource officers” we hear about actually work for the school system and are not sworn cops. Any officer with any experience should know it ain’t a crime to leave the school grounds or not have a hall pass... that being said... police tend to step in it on occasion and screw it up for the rest of us... my two cents
