“When youre living on a yacht, youre essentially telling the world youre living a carefree lifestyle.”
IIRC Paul Allen’s yacht could carry something like 18 guests. It had a crew of 60 or something. I suppose Allen and Gates can be “carefree” - but running a yacht is probably anything but carefree.
The REAL carefree lifestyle is being a friend invited to be on the yacht. Not the guy that owns and maintains it.
My parents were friends with a very wealthy guy that had the largest yacht on Lake Superior. We went out with him several times. The first time we went he was up on deck, alone, sanding the teak. Dad and I helped while the wives talked and made lunch.
I asked him why he didn’t have somebody to do this work for him? “Well - I have this boat to relax. But it is more than just the boating. It is everything about the boat - the mechanics, the upkeep, planning a trip, plotting a course. And nothing better than sanding and varnishing the deck and looking at it shine as the water spray beads off!”
Paul Allens beautiful yacht would cruise right past our home on Speiden Channel, along with two security vessels and his helicopter on board.
