I don't doubt that one bit. The secular Western Left believed and published every word Mao told them about China's invasion of Tibet.
Of course when those lies could no longer be supported by the Western press they flipped and became Tibet's biggest supporters weeping and wailing for their suffering. Way too late to help them but, oh, did they love them.
